Job Description

At University Hospitals Plymouth we have a comprehensive stroke centre and we are looking to expand our thrombectomy service to be able to provide a 24/7 service to the South West Peninsula. We welcome applicants to join our multi-disciplinary team and can offer either a full-time stroke job plan, which does not include general medicine commitments, or a job plan shared with another department, including neurology, care of the elderly, rehabilitation medicine and internal medicine. Preference will be given to candidates who are seeking to work solely in Stroke. Applicants will contribute to a regional network (currently in development) to provide out of hours advice on thrombolysis and thrombectomy and weekend working (at no more than 1 in 7 frequency) covering the hyperacute stroke unit.



The job is primarily based at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, a large teaching hospital and Neuroscience centre, and this offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with colleagues in allied specialties, including neurosurgery and neuro-intensive care and to develop sub-specialty interests related to stroke, education and clinical research. The successful applicant/s will join the existing consultant body at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust in order to expand current provision of stroke services in our regional Neuroscience centre.

The successful candidate will also be expected to play an active role in the development and medical management of our departments; to participate in the training and education of medical students, resident medical staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals, including ACPs.
