At Tata Technologies we make product development dreams a reality by designing, engineering and validating the products of tomorrow for the world's leading manufacturers. Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Structural CAE Engineer
to be based at our customers site in Gaydon.
Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.
The Role:
We are seeking a Structural CAE Engineer - eMotors to lead structural analysis and optimization of mechanical eMotor components. This role will initially focus on two eMotors over a 9-month period, with additional support for re-design activities in 2026 and 2027. The engineer will work under the guidance of the Head of eMotor Design, ensuring robust structural validation, manufacturability, and integration of eMotor components.
Key Responsibilities:
Structural Analysis & Optimization
Perform structural analysis of key eMotor components, including:
Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) Rotors
Rotor Shafts
Stators
Housings
End Frames
Develop and maintain high-fidelity structural FEA models to evaluate:
Stress distribution
Deflections
Fatigue durability
Define accurate boundary conditions and load cases in collaboration with E-Mag, Thermal, and Mechanical Design teams.
Provide design feedback and recommendations for structural performance, manufacturability, and serviceability.
Present multiple design solutions for trade-off studies, ensuring structural integrity while balancing thermal and electromagnetic performance.
Support design reviews and contribute to the eMotor development lifecycle.
Planning & Execution:
Planning
Define simulation scope and objectives aligned with project milestones and design freeze points.
Identify critical load cases based on vehicle duty cycles and component interactions.
Coordinate with design and test teams to gather necessary inputs (geometry, materials, loads).
Plan for model validation and correlation with physical test data.
Estimate time and resource requirements for simulation tasks and model updates.
Execution
Prepare CAD models for meshing and simulation, ensuring geometric fidelity and simplification.
Generate high-quality meshes suitable for linear and nonlinear structural analysis.
Set up and run simulations using industry-standard CAE tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, OptiStruct - open for discussion).
Conduct sensitivity analyses and design optimization studies.
Document assumptions, boundary conditions, and results in a traceable and reviewable format.
Iterate with design teams to refine components based on simulation outcomes.
Key Deliverables
The Structural CAE Support Engineer will ensure robust structural validation of eMotor components, leading to the following outcomes:
Deliver structural FEA models and simulation decks for all critical components.
Provide detailed analysis reports, including:
o Stress and deflection plots
o Fatigue life predictions
o Design recommendations
Ensure simulation results support component design for manufacturing, serviceability, and integration.
Validate simulation findings with physical test data where applicable.
Support engineering gateway reviews with structural insights and documentation.
Maintain version-controlled simulation files and ensure compliance with release checklists.
Contribute to DFMEAs and assist in resolving structural concerns via eCMS.
Support redesign activities in 2026 and 2027 based on test feedback and program evolution.
