Reservoirs are critical to water supply, flood management, and climate resilience. Your work will contribute to the safe design, inspection, and improvement of dams and water infrastructure across the UK.
You'll collaborate with experts across geotechnical, hydrology, and environmental disciplines, helping to plan, design, and deliver structural solutions that meet UK safety standards, including the Reservoirs Act 1975.
From detailed engineering design to compliance reporting and on-site inspections -- no two days are the same.
What You'll Be Doing
Keeping Reservoirs Safe
Supporting statutory inspections under the Reservoirs Act 1975
Helping deliver On-Site Emergency Flood Plans (OSEPs)
Monitoring reservoir structures -- embankments, spillways, pipework -- and reporting on their condition
Contributing to the planning and delivery of remediation works, new construction, and enlargement of reservoirs
Engineering Design & Delivery
Assisting with feasibility, concept, and detailed design of:
Earthfill and concrete dams
Spillways, culverts, and outlet structures
Embankments, slopes, retaining walls
Valves, pipework, and draw-off systems
Producing calculations, drawings, specifications, and construction packages
Supporting procurement, contractor liaison, and construction-phase supervision
Delivering structural designs across a range of materials (RC, steel, masonry, timber)
Additional Impact Areas
Performing structural inspections and asset condition surveys
Supporting dam break analysis and flood risk assessments
Preparing safety case reports, design submissions, and compliance documentation
Collaborating with clients, regulators, and internal teams to ensure high standards across all stages of project delivery
What We're Looking For
Must-Haves
A degree (BEng/MEng) in Civil or Structural Engineering
Experience in structural design and analysis of hydraulic or civil infrastructure
Knowledge of UK reservoir safety regulations (Reservoirs Act 1975, flood risk frameworks)
Skilled in tools like STAAD, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or Robot
Great communication and reporting skills -- both written and verbal
Willingness to travel to inspection and project sites across the UK
Nice-to-Haves
Experience supporting or working under a Supervising/Panel Engineer
Familiarity with geotechnical design and slope stability
Progress toward Chartership (ICE or IStructE)
Exposure to dam break analysis, flood planning, or emergency response planning
A valid CSCS card and UK driving licence
