As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced
Senior Structural Design Engineer
to take ownership of key projects, providing design leadership and technical expertise within our expanding team.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage structural steel design projects from concept to completion, either independently or as part of a collaborative design team.
Develop and check detailed design calculations for frames, members, and connections in line with British Standards and Eurocodes.
Apply sound engineering judgement to both manual and software-based design work.
Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to coordinate project information effectively.
Ensure designs meet quality, budget, and programme requirements.
Mentor and support junior and graduate engineers, contributing to their professional growth and development.
Participate in design meetings and represent the company with professionalism and confidence.
Ensure compliance with internal quality assurance and HSE procedures.
Collaborate with other departments including fabrication and project management to deliver seamless project execution.
Support the continual improvement of design processes and contribute to the company's overall technical development.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
Minimum of
10 years' experience
in the design of structural steelwork.
Solid understanding of relevant
British Standards and Eurocodes
.
Previous experience working with a
UK-based steel fabricator
is essential.
Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering and ideally working toward or holding
Chartered (MIStructE / MICE)
status.
Skilled in using design software such as
Tekla Structural Designer
,
Tekla Portal Designer
,
MasterSeries
,
S-Frame
,
Idea StatiCa
, and various cold-rolled design tools.
Experience in
temporary works design
would be advantageous.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Proven ability to manage design budgets and deliver results under pressure.
