Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC)
to oversee and manage all temporary works activities in line with
BS 5975:2019+A1:2024
. This role is ideal for a Structural or Civil Engineer with a strong background in temporary works design, checking, and coordination.
As the appointed TWC, you will act as the central point of contact for temporary works on site -- ensuring designs are safe, compliant, and integrated seamlessly into project delivery. You will be responsible for driving safety, maintaining robust documentation, and supporting collaboration across design, construction, and site teams.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the formally appointed
Temporary Works Coordinator
in accordance with BS 5975.
Manage the
Temporary Works Register
and maintain all associated documentation.
Review and approve
Temporary Works Design Briefs (TWDBs)
.
Coordinate with designers, checkers, site teams, and contractors to ensure clarity and compliance.
Undertake design checks for Category 2 and 3 temporary works where suitably qualified.
Authorise and issue
Permits to Load / Permits to Dismantle
.
Ensure all temporary works are designed, checked, constructed, loaded, maintained, and dismantled safely.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to site teams.
Carry out site inspections to verify compliance with design and safety requirements.
Liaise with the
Principal Designer / Principal Contractor
to integrate temporary works into overall project plans.
Capture and share lessons learned from audits, incidents, and project reviews.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
CITB Temporary Works Coordinator training course - mandatory.
Extensive experience in temporary works design, management, and coordination.
Competency in designing and checking Category 2 and 3 works (formwork, falsework, facade retention, propping, scaffolding, etc.).
Strong knowledge of BS 5975:2019+A1:2024 and related legislation.
Proven site-based experience with flexibility to travel across the North of England.
Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
