We are looking for an NMC registered nurse who would like to access a fully funded training opportunity (Level 7), to qualify as a registered specialist community public health nurse (School Nurse), commencing January 2026 with the University of Greenwich.

How to become a School Nurse?



Successful applicants will be sponsored/seconded on a midpoint Band 5 salary for the duration of the programme. Tuition fees are paid by the NHS. Travel expenses will be paid when on business travel only.



The programme comprises 50% theory and 50% practice and runs for 45 weeks per year with holidays at various points throughout the programme.



Attendance at university for taught session is usually two days per week between 09:00 and 17:00. You will also be expected to undertake self-directed study when not in university.



We will provide you with a wide range of experiences in a diverse population; giving you the chance to develop the skills and competencies to become a registered school nurse.



You will be fully integrated into a friendly, supportive team who work together to ensure you have every opportunity to fulfil the requirements of the programme, including 1:1 support from a Practice Assessor/Supervisor.

Entry Criteria:

Applicants need to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (UK). Applicants should have a relevant degree, normally at 2:2 or above (a minimum of 120 credits at Level 6) To be eligible to make an RPEL claim for entry to level 7 students must be a registered Nurse or Midwife. Students must be in possession of a relevant Diploma in Higher Education (consisting of at least 120 credits at level 5) and at least 15 level 6 credits and be able to produce evidence of this when requested. Normally, where English is not a first language applicants should demonstrate evidence of previous study in the English language or have a minimum International English Language Testing System score of 7 in every skill.

Please note:

This role is being offered on a fixed-term basis for the duration of the training course. The organisation will fund your course fees; however, if you do not complete the course or choose not to remain with the organisation after successful completion (where a substantive role is available), you may be required to repay all or part of the course fees. Subject to the availability of vacancies, successful completion of the course may lead to an offer of a permanent role as a School Nurse (Band 6) with opportunities to progress your career further.



Annual leave is fixed and non-negotiable for the duration of the programme. Booking annual leave outside the agreed dates is not possible due to the planned programme and ability to complete within the time frame.

Your statement should be no longer than 400 -500 words maximum.



We want to employ people who are motivated and have a passion for working with children and families; make sure you give clear reasons for applying for this opportunity.



You need to be able to demonstrate that you understand what school nurses do. You may want to reference Department of Health documents as evidence that you have been actively researching, however it is as important that you are able to describe the skills you have that are transferrable to the role of a school nurse.

Both academic and practice assessment elements must be passed to enable registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
