Job Summary




This post is an opportunity to join our committed team of statisticians for a year and become involved in extremely rewarding work, developing a broad range of statistical and other skills. The post will involve collaborative work with clinicians and others working in organ transplantation, blood donation and haematology.


This post is for undergraduate students studying for a degree with placement in industry in a statistical / numerate subject. After completing two years' study of your degree, you will spend a year of placement with us, then return to university to complete your studies.


Main duties of the job




In this role you will be a

Student Statistician

at least two years into your studies in a statistical/numerate subject. Responsibilities include:

Undertaking statistical analyses for projects and Advisory Group papers associated with organ donation and transplantation, which are overseen by senior staff, and contribute to the work of other areas of the service. Carrying out statistical analyses of data arising from clinical trials and other studies in blood, organ and tissue donation, organ transplantation and transfusion medicine. Reporting results to other staff in NHSBT, specialist advisory groups, the Department of Health, clinical staff in blood and transplantation services and other interested parties. Describing the design, execution, and statistical analysis of data from project work, clinical trials and research studies verbally and in writing. Contributing to the collation of statistical data that are supplied by NHSBT in response to requests for information from a variety of sources including government and the media.

About You



Experience and Knowledge



Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint) Managing workloads to meet deadlines.

Qualifications and Training



A-level (or equivalent) qualifications, including at least one in a relevant subject. Currently studying for a degree in a statistical / numerate subject, having completed two years' study. Demonstrates committment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD)
