The Orpheus Centre is an independent specialist college in Godstone, Surrey. We focus on developing independence skills through performing and visual arts and make dramatic improvements to young disabled adults' lives.
Summary
We are currently seeking a
Student Support and Wellbeing Officer
to provide a wide range of support to learners throughout their time at the Orpheus Centre. This includes, but is not limited to, responding to queries regarding a student's mental health, providing wellbeing / pastoral support (including during dog therapy sessions) implementing and monitoring the success of strategies and interventions; to promote positive behaviour, learner engagement and wellbeing.
Responsibilities
The Student Support and Wellbeing Officer will establish ongoing communication and positive relationships with learners, parents / carers, colleagues and external contacts to ensure learners are provided with the best possible support and guidance to help them flourish and thrive.
Essential qualifications, knowledge and experience
Minimum of Level 2 qualification in youth work or learning support
Minimum of 5 GCSEs A-C or equivalent including Maths and English
Experience working with young disabled adults
Experience of working in a wellbeing, pastoral or emotional support role
Willingness to maintain and update personal specialist skills and knowledge through engaging with appropriate professional development activities and training
Excellent computer literacy and administrative skills
Ability to create innovative visual resources for learners
Flexibility when working with learners and staff and in attending all events in the evenings and where necessary at other times
Ability to create internal learning and development plan and resources
Ability to work well in a team and foster good relationships within a multi-disciplinary workforce
Ability to adapt communication according to the needs of learners
Resilient
Calm and patient communicator
Positive and solution focussed approach
Experience working in further education with young adults with learning and/or physical disabilities is desirable.
