This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic Charity and Housing Association. The Society of St James (SSJ) has been working in Hampshire for over 40 years, delivering high impact, person-centred, accommodation services to adults and young people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use and mental health problems. We believe that every person is of worth and we are prepared to take risks to house and support the most vulnerable and socially excluded members of society.
The Role
The Family Support Project works with parents and families to reduce the impact of substance misuse on children of substance dependent parents. SSJ is looking to recruit a Family Worker to deliver this work, and a comprehensive induction and training package will be offered to successful candidates.
The role of the Family Worker is to provide a mixture of individual and group interventions with parents, carers, children and young people up to and including the thresholds for social care involvement to improve outcomes for children and families affected by alcohol and substance dependence.
The successful candidate will take on a manageable caseload of parents and families, providing timely support and interventions to support behaviour change, and reduce the risks to, and impact on children.
The Family Worker will work in partnership with parents/carers to strengthen parental capacity and family relationships and reduce parental conflict.
You will join a small team of Family Workers dedicated to improving the lives of children and families affected by substance misuse.
Family Workers will sit within the main substance misuse team and will be expected to share key responsibilities within this.
Intervention work will be undertaken in a range of venues, including family homes, community spaces, the Recovery Hub and schools.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with families and/or substance misuse, and will have an understanding of the impact of parental substance misuse on children and the wider family.
You will have some experience of multi-agency work, including with schools and other universal services.
It is essential that you have a good understanding of child safeguarding protocols in Portsmouth and are able to identify when children may meet the threshold for tier 3 and 4 children's services.
The successful candidate will have the ability to embrace flexibility, whilst also demonstrating autonomy in their work planning.
