Due to the recent recategorisation to a Category B Remand Prison, we have an exciting opportunity for a Substance Misuse Nurse - Non Medical Prescriber to join our Primary Care team at HMP Brixton



HMP Brixton is now a Category B male prison since April 2025 housing men on remand. Our patients needs will vary greatly but there will be a focus on mental health, substance misuse and early days in custody.



Hours





Full time, 37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday



Salary





From 54,000 to 58,000 per annum, depending on experience

What you'll be doing





As a Non Medical Prescriber your responsibilities will vary. You will


Undertakes Clinical Nursing Practice at an advanced level using expert knowledge and clinical skills to deliver care to patients Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence. Provide treatment as required, including prescribing medication, within their sphere of competence. Carry out comprehensive assessments of patients looked after. Provide advice/support in relation to crisis situations, conditions, and treatment plans,
based on medical and treatment history.

Carry out a clinical review with the patient and update care plans accordingly

Qualifications required:


Registered professional with current active registration (NMC, GPHC, HCPC) BSc or equivalent qualification Non-medical prescribing qualification Understanding and knowledge of policy developments related to the delivery of primary care
services including , Clinical Governance, Quality & Outcomes Framework
Understanding of evidence based practice Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
