Background and Service
Kaleidoscope is a pioneering substance misuse treatment provider, offering evidence-based treatment and holistic support to individuals who access its services.
We are a forward-looking organisation, passionate about developing services and listening to service users' needs, which is at the heart of what we do. Our achievements include initiating the first needle syringe exchange, on site methadone dispensing and setting social enterprises. Kaleidoscope understands that, through listening to people, we will continue to be both an innovative service provider and one that campaigns for the interests of those seeking help.
The Powys substance misuse service provides psychosocial interventions for adult drug and alcohol users; and adult criminal justice interventions. These services are delivered alongside Medical and Prescribing services to ensure that the treatment of psychosocial needs occurs alongside the treatment of physical dependency to maximise recovery and outcomes for service users.
Services are delivered within the borders of the county of Powys; primarily from 4 designated sites operated by Kaleidoscope, but also from defined satellite locations. The range of interventions are delivered hierarchically in a stepped care arrangement, with the least intensive treatment options appropriate to each client's needs offered first. The range of services incudes:
Engagement based services
Training, support and consultancy for Tier 1 agencies to promote, deliver training and support the implementation of AUDIT; Bibliotherapy; Single Point of Contact (SPOC); needle exchange and harm reduction services; triage assessment; and brief interventions (drugs and alcohol).
Active treatment services
Comprehensive assessment & care coordination; preparation programme; structured group programme; time-limited psychosocial interventions; sign-posting to diversionary activities; and community detoxification support.

Role Purpose:
At Kaleidoscope we support people with Drug, Alcohol and Mental health issues so they can have a brighter future in their communities.
Substance Misuse Workers will attract, engage with and retain individuals in need of
Substance Misuse intervention by offering a wide range of person-centred services.
Following an assessment of need, service users will be offered time limited psychosocial interventions to enable them to achieve substance misuse related goals and sustainable positive behaviour change. Service users with complex needs will be offered a case management approach. Therapeutic interventions include Motivational Enhancement
Therapy (MET); Social Behaviour and Network Therapy (SBNT); Structured Relapse
Prevention (SRP); Cognitive Behavioural Coping Skills Training (CBCST); and Behavioural Self
Control Training (BSCT)
In addition to one-to-one intervention, Substance Misuse Workers will deliver psychosocial programmes on a group basis.
The role will further include the provision of detox support for drugs and alcohol; needle exchange / harm reduction-based interventions; and the delivery of aftercare programme elements. Whilst one to one work will usually be delivered on Kaleidoscope premises, domiciliary visits will be made where appropriate, with assertive outreach of hard to engage clients where this is practicable.
To deliver holistic care, close working with a range of external agencies will be necessary in order to best meet each client's needs. This will include clients who require more in-depth support, many of whom will be prescribed an opioid substitute by the Powys Prescribing
Service.
Substance Misuse Workers will support the delivery of a training package for non-specialist agencies at tier 1, as brief advice from non-specialist agencies will feature heavily as a primary intervention for drug and alcohol users not requiring in-depth support.
The post holder should enjoy face-to-face contact with people who have recognised that their use of substances has become problematic. They will have excellent communication skills, be able to work closely with other multi-disciplinary agencies and flexibly and efficiently within a small team, to ensure services are delivered equitably and at times to suit the client.
The post-holder will have a non-judgmental approach to people who have substance misuse problems and be able to provide a welcoming and accessible service to existing and potential service users.
Individual supervision will be provided six weekly for one to two hours as required. There will be an induction period, during which training will be provided in specific areas.

The post-holder will deliver high quality services, maintain high professional standards are maintained; and will work within established administrative and reporting procedures. The post-holder will be committed to continual improvement through the maintenance of the ISO9001:2008 Quality Management System, which currently runs within the Powys service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Undertake assessment of individuals with substance misuse problems, plan care and provide a seamless transition for service users from referral through to discharge
Proactively manage a varied caseload of individuals with substance misuse problems toward behaviour change using a range of interventions
Establish and monitor effective therapeutic alliance using ORS/SRS, and monitor client change using the Treatment Outcomes Profile (TOP)
Facilitate group programmes, in collaboration with 'Helping Groups to Grow', and diversionary activities offered by the service
Develop competence in therapeutic interventions, through engaging fully in service- wide video practice supervision
Manage caseload administration requirements, ensuring that all required data relating to client work is entered accurately and swiftly
Advocate on behalf of service users within the service and in the wider community.
Be involved in the promotion and facilitation of meaningful, purposeful service user involvement.
Develop and maintain effective links with mental health, GP prescribing and other voluntary and statutory sector providers and agencies.
Provide needle exchange services and harm reduction information

Provide support to the Young People's Substance Misuse Service when required, working supportively and collaboratively with CAIS colleagues
Provide cover to other Kaleidoscope services in the region when required
Ensure personal safety and good practice measures are maintained at all times.
Maintain accurate client records and good communication with those involved in the clients care.
Work collaboratively with the all-Wales out of work peer mentoring service, referring service users who may benefit from the scheme
To maintain and develop personal expertise and knowledge by reading, networking and further training in order to develop professional competence and to contribute to the development of competence within the team.
To support the induction and orientation of new staff and volunteers.
Undertake other tasks relevant to the role as required by the Service Manager

In consultation with the post holder, this job description is liable to variation to reflect actual, contemplated or approved changes in/or to the job role.
This post has been identified as requiring the post holder to provide evidence of BBV immunisation status in order to carry out the role effectively. The role may require the post holder to undertake Dry Blood Spot Testing/ Substance Misuse Testing/ Working in
Needle Exchange or is a clinical role and therefore Kaleidoscope wishes to ensure that staff are not at risk of infection or transmission of a disease that may affect their own or patient safety. Staff will therefore need to evidence their immunisation history, exemption or non-responder on commencement of employment or at routine intervals at the request of the Organisation.

Qualifications Professional and training QSF level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) qualification
Educated to degree level
Experience/ Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their Experience of working
Knowledge ethnic, cultural, social backgrounds, their gender, age, with Substance religious belief, disability and sexual orientation. Misusers
Proven ability to work collaboratively and build professional Knowledge of Welsh relationships. Government's substance misuse
