The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to join our highly skilled Transmission & Distribution field team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the operational safety and control of our clients' high-voltage electrical systems during construction, commissioning, and maintenance projects. As the key authority on-site, you will implement and manage safety from the system, ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with stringent safety rules and procedures. This is a hands-on, responsible position for a dedicated professional committed to upholding the highest standards of electrical safety on networks up to 132kV.
Key Responsibilities:
As the lead electrical authority on-site, your expertise will be fundamental to the safe execution of our projects. Your core responsibilities will include:
Operational Safety & Control: Act as the lead Senior Authorised Person (SAP) on site, taking full responsibility for all aspects of operational safety on HV networks up to and including 132kV.
Switching & Isolation: Plan, write, and execute complex HV switching schedules to achieve safe points of isolation and earthing for working parties.
Issuing of Safety Documents: Issue and cancel safety documents in strict accordance with client and company safety rules, including Permits to Work, Sanctions for Test, and Limitations of Access.
Site Management & Supervision: Manage and coordinate all activities within live substations, ensuring absolute compliance with safety protocols. Directly supervise working parties and contractors operating under your safety document.
Risk Assessment: Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all work to be carried out on or near the HV system under your control.
Stakeholder Liaison: Interface directly with client Control Engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure clear communication and the safe coordination of all operational activities.
Commissioning & Testing Support: Provide essential HV operational support during the commissioning and testing phases of new and upgraded substation assets, ensuring they are safely integrated into the network.
Emergency Response: Serve as the first point of contact for any electrical incidents on site, leading the response to make the system safe in a timely and professional manner.
What You'll Bring:
Essential Authorisation: Current or recent authorisation as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) on DNO or National Grid systems, with proven operational experience on networks up to 132kV.
Technical Background: A strong background in electrical engineering, gained through an apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or a relevant degree.
Expert Knowledge: In-depth, working knowledge of UK electrical operational practices, Distribution Safety Rules, and safe systems of work.
Field Experience: Extensive hands-on experience with a wide range of HV substation plant, protection systems, and control equipment.
Leadership & Demeanour: A meticulous and unwavering commitment to safety, strong leadership qualities, and the proven ability to make critical, confident decisions under pressure.
Mobility: A full, clean UK driving license and the flexibility and willingness to travel extensively to project sites across the UK.
