, fixed term sub-warden appointment. Applications for this career-building opportunity are invited from doctoral researchers only - ideally with a substantial amount of time remaining on their programme.
The Hall: Faraday Hall is a vibrant, historic community located at the top of the Student Village on Loughborough's main campus. One of the University's founding catered halls, Faraday combines tradition with energy, offering students a rich sense of belonging in a central location just a short walk from the library, the paddock, and other campus amenities. Known for its strong student engagement, inclusive spirit, and long-standing hall pride, Faraday offers a lively and supportive environment in the heart of the University.
Duties: Faraday Sub-Wardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the hall. This may involve pastoral, disciplinary and administrative duties as well as being involved in social aspects of hall life. The successful applicant will be part of a team which provides out-of-hours emergency cover in a hall of about 367 students, fostering a positive student experience.
Personal Attributes: Candidates must display a high level of personal organisational ability, excellent communication skills, good administrative ability, leadership qualities and be a good team player. Sub-Wardens are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the Hall, spending roughly 14 hours of work towards the role on a weekly basis.
Accommodation and Catering Arrangements: Free accommodation is available throughout the year subject to the continual fulfilment of shifts. Typically, accommodation available for Sub-Wardens is only suitable for a single person. Faraday is a catered hall and some meals are provided during term time through the dining hall.
Get to Know the Role and Team: The successful applicant must be available to attend Sub-Warden training sessions as required (e.g. First Aid Training, Annual Sub-Warden Training), typically taking across September. It is highly recommended that prospective candidates research to understand the role and the lifestyle changes it requires.
