Nokia Bell Labs Cambridge is looking for a summer research intern to join the Math & Algorithms Research Group for 10 weeks in the summer of 2026 to explore the use of physical systems in AI applications. In the project the successful candidate will design machine learning algorithms for novel, unconventional, computing systems and benchmark their performance.

Duration: 10 Weeks
Date: June to August, 2026
Responsibilities:

  • Understand the capabilities of novel computing hardware in the areas of machine learning and AI.
  • Write code to simulate physical systems and conduct studies with simple machine learning datasets.
  • Create written reports and presentations, with the possibility of a publication after successful conclusion of the project.
Qualifications:
You:
  • Are a researcher studying for a PhD degree in theoretical physics, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related area.
  • Have hands on experience with computational models, computer simulations and machine learning frameworks.
  • Have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the project.
