Summer Placement - Crowd Flow & Analytics




Do you want to work on projects around the world modelling, analysing and advising on how people move and behave? Join us for an 8 week summer placement in our London, Bath or Manchester office to find out more.



The Analytics & Crowd Dynamics team at Buro Happold is challenged with the most unique, interesting people-centric projects around the world. This requires us to be at the forefront of innovation in the field to address the complex challenges of analysis, optimisation and solutions for how people move and behave. We are disrupting how buildings and cities are planned, designed, and operated. We are putting people at the centre of decision making, using people flow simulations and other methods to analyse crowd behaviour, visitor movement and management. We are optimising spaces such as airports, museums, theatres, workplaces, stadia, campuses and urban spaces. We take pride in delighting our clients by providing practical solutions that have significant positive impact on user experience, the performance of the venue or space and facilitating crowd management.


The work is highly varied and challenging, and would involve complex modelling work, as well as providing day to day design and management advice to architects and clients.

What would you do?




During your placement, you will have exposure to the following:

Opportunity to work on interesting projects from a diverse range of sectors from entertainment and sport venues, museums and cultural venues, transport hubs to city areas and some of the largest crowds in the world Learn about crowd flow / people movement consultancy, how we analyse this and apply some techniques Supporting colleagues in their analysis and presentation of results Have the opportunity to contribute your own ideas to your work

Your skills & experience:



You will be studying a degree in a relevant subject including but not limited to transport, mathematics, economics, statistics, operational research, geo-spatial analysis, physics, organizational psychology, and engineering. Eagerness to learn and work as part of a specialist team working with a variety of disciplines Logical mindset and excellent numerical and analytical skills. Experience analysing and interpreting data sets such as demands, routing or spatial analytics. Ability to present and communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner. Confident using Microsoft Office packages, in particular excel, word and powerpoint Within your Cover Letter/Supporting Statement please highlight what has led to your interest in this role and how your degree could be relevant.
