Salary:

38,000 per annum (Full-Time Equivalent)

Role Overview:



As a Supervising Social Worker within ABC Fostering's trauma-informed and ethical fostering agency, you will be responsible for the support, supervision, development, and review of foster carers to ensure safe, stable, and nurturing placements for children and young people.

You will work collaboratively with carers, colleagues, and external professionals to deliver high-quality services that meet regulatory standards and reflect ABC Fostering's commitment to child-centred care and therapeutic practice.

Key Responsibilities



Carer Supervision and Development

Provide regular, scheduled supervision and support visits to allocated foster carers (minimum monthly).

Undertake unannounced visits, annual reviews, and safer caring assessments in line with fostering regulations.

Build strong relationships with carers to promote resilience, reflection, and ongoing development.

Offer guidance on care planning, placement support, and managing children's emotional and behavioural needs.

Ensure accurate and timely case recordings using CHARMS case management system.

Fostering Assessments and Panel Work

Complete comprehensive Form F assessments for new foster carers and transfer cases.

Present assessments, annual reviews, and significant updates to the Fostering Panel.

Participate in the matching process and contribute to placement planning with the Registered Manager.

Monitor progress of applicants during assessment and ensure timely progression to panel.

Child and Placement Support

Liaise with Local Authority social workers and other professionals in relation to children placed.

Attend statutory meetings (Looked After Reviews, PEPs, placement planning, disruption meetings).

Promote placement stability through early intervention and close monitoring of support needs.

Support foster carers in understanding delegated authority, safeguarding procedures, and recording duties.

Training and CPD

Support foster carers to complete the Training, Support and Development (TSD) Standards within 12 months of approval.

Identify carers' training needs and contribute to personalised CPD plans.

Deliver or co-deliver training modules in areas of expertise (safeguarding, attachment, behaviour management).

Promote trauma-informed care models including PACE, Secure Base, and therapeutic parenting.

Team Participation and Out-of-Hours

Contribute to team meetings, service development sessions, and policy reviews.

Participate in the out-of-hours rota to provide support to foster carers when needed.

Assist with carer recruitment events, information sessions, and initial enquiries where required.

Uphold ABC Fostering's values and contribute to building a reflective, ethical working culture.

Essential Requirements:



Degree in Social Work or equivalent

Registered with Social Work England

Minimum 3 years' post-qualifying experience in children's social care

Full enhanced DBS and references

Strong written and verbal communication

Driving licence and access to a car

Desirable Requirements:



Knowledge of therapeutic models (DDP, PACE, Secure Base)

Experience in Independent Fostering Agencies (IFAs)

Experience of delivering training or support groups

Familiarity with CHARMS software

Experience presenting to fostering panels

Participation in out-of-hours services previously
