The Opportunity

This role provides the successful candidate a fantastic opportunity to support continued growth of the McDonald\xe2\x80\x99s UK&I business, through ensuring that our Logistics operations and network are optimised for today and resilient for the future. You will lead the distribution category, covering an annual spend of c.\xc2\xa3200m. You will be accountable for managing the day-to-day relationship with our dedicated distribution provider, Martin Brower UK, across all aspects of operations, volume & capacity management, assuring product supply and delivery of costs to budget and targeted KPIs. You will also be responsible for working with Martin Brower to develop our future logistics strategy, focussed on network development and technology deployment.

What will my accountabilities be?

  • Lead the overall distribution category for McDonald\xe2\x80\x99s UK&I, responsible for logistics spend of c.\xc2\xa3200m and annual delivery volumes of c.100m cases.
  • Own the day-to-day management of our relationship with our dedicated distribution partner, Martin Brower UK, to drive ongoing operational excellence and supplier performance.
  • Responsible for negotiating and monitoring of c.\xc2\xa3200m annual distribution budget, ensuring that all associated costs are tracked, variances are managed and reported internally to Executive level.
  • Responsible for setting and managing joint KPIs with Martin Brower \xe2\x80\x93 including restaurant service levels, forecast accuracy and operational efficiencies, ensuring that performance versus KPIs are monitored and improvements targeted.
  • Responsible for ensuring that McDonald\xe2\x80\x99s UK&I distribution network has sufficient capacity to support daily, weekly and annual volumes \xe2\x80\x93 taking into account our trade patterns, promotional plans, marketing events and long-term growth aspirations. You will translate our business performance and strategies into logistics capacity requirements and work jointly with Martin Brower to guarantee these.
  • Lead the resolution of constrained supply situations, taking swift action to identify and prioritise tasks across the Supply Chain team and wider functions, to ensure that supply to restaurants is not impacted. During such situations, you will be responsible providing clarity and the appropriate levels of detail to stakeholders across the McDonald\xe2\x80\x99s business, including our Executive Team, Restaurant Operations, Franchisees and Suppliers.
  • Develop and deliver strategies and supporting tactics to improve service levels, mitigate cost and develop distribution capacity to meet McDonald\xe2\x80\x99s UK&I\xe2\x80\x99s evolving needs. This includes appropriate strategies across network design, property, operational processes and technology or automation deployment
  • Ensure proactive communication of issues related to logistics to appropriate stakeholder levels across our UK&I business \xe2\x80\x93 including all stakeholder groups across our \xe2\x80\x983 Legged Stool\xe2\x80\x99 (McDonald\xe2\x80\x99s Corporate, Franchisees and Suppliers), as well as to our wider Global business.
  • In addition to the Logistics contract, there may also be opportunities to own and manage some smaller service contracts in accordance with business requirements.

Qualifications

What background do I need to have?

Essential
  • A good understanding of end to end supply chains from manufacturing through to consumer
  • Proven experience working within a logistics (warehousing and transport) operation, preferably within the food industry
  • A good working knowledge of current UK&I logistics industry dynamics, challenges and opportunities
  • Strong commercial skills with knowledge of budgetary control and compliance
  • A strong team player with an ability to forge and maintain lasting relationships
  • Strong communication skills \xe2\x80\x93 including an ability to communicate supply chain & logistics information to audiences of different backgrounds and knowledge-bases.
  • Experience of supplier and/or 3PL development and relationship management
  • Computer Literate \xe2\x80\x93 competent with using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
Desirable
  • Experience of working in or with a 3PL (3rd Party Logistics), JIT (Just in Time) distribution company or within the Supply Chain or Logistics division of a major food & drink retailer.
  • A good working understanding of automation solutions in the logistics industry
  • Professional Accreditations from a certified supply chain or logistics body (e.g. CIPS, CILT or similar)
