In a nutshell

  • This role is part of the Category Supply team. It requires close business partnership with the Buying, Category Planning, Technical and Product Development teams, and with other departments across the business including Retail, Logistics, Marketing and Online.
  • The primary responsibility of the role is to effectively manage the end-to-end flow of a portfolio of products from the supply base into multiple Sainsbury\xe2\x80\x99s retail channels, maximising on-shelf availability in store. You will be required to accurately forecast demand volume, plan promotional events, manage seasonal change, identify, and implement efficiencies within the Supply Chain to reduce cost of goods, supporting strategic plans that align across the category team.
  • Managing the supply base and influencing cross functional stakeholders is critical to achieving corporate goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relating to sales, waste, availability, market share growth, profit and customer satisfaction whilst working within working capital constraints.
What you need to do
  • Maintain systemic parameters to ensure accurate supplier purchase order generation reducing the need for manual intervention to a minimum.
  • Provide root cause analysis and investigation of trended data in relation to various KPIs such as sales, availability, waste, and stockholding in order to achieve the optimum customer experience across our retail channels, and also to inform and influence the strategic direction of the commercial category.
  • Contribute toward \xe2\x80\x98Cost to Serve\xe2\x80\x99 objectives through ongoing and continuous engage with the supply base, identifying Supply Chain efficiencies and implement initiatives to deliver Cost of Goods (COGs) reductions.
  • Carefully manage working capital expenditure adhering to budgets set.
  • Plan, communicate, implement, and review the implementation of seasonal events and range updates to ensure shared objectives are met and KPIs achieved, relentlessly striving to improve performance.
  • Drive consistent, proactive ways of working across our supply base and logistics network to support the delivery of shared objectives, maintaining positive and productive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Own the performance of your category profile, be curious and seek opportunities, to constantly find ways to improve performance, simplify and save.
  • Ensure thorough governance over category profile, with regular and effective cross functional business partnership. Set objectives and contribute towards strategic category development plans, whilst ensuring Supply Chain objectives are understood and met.
  • Maintain a customer and retail focused lens, throughout decision making processes.
  • Accountable for ongoing and continuous commitment to personal and professional development by maintaining a personal development plan, regularly seeking, and providing feedback and supporting other colleagues in their personal development.
  • Support the identification and implementation of initiatives, events, processes, and ways of working that will contribute to making Supply Chain \xe2\x80\x9ca Great Place to Work\xe2\x80\x9d.
  • Liaise regularly with Subject Matter Experts to maximise knowledge.
What you need to know and show:
  • Business and commercial acumen and strong analytical capability to generate, manipulate & interrogate data to perform accurate root cause analysis and generate insights & trends.
  • Business Partnership, Stakeholder Management and Cross Functional Working.
  • Effective communicator - understands the importance of and can build a strong network around the business.
  • Robust systemic competency, competent excel skills are desirable.
  • Demonstrate drive, curiosity, and desire to grow together with the demonstration of ongoing and continuous professional development.
  • Effective project management (desirable not essential)
  • Good judgement in the face of multiple, and sometimes conflicting, demands.
  • Ability to influence at all levels (up to and including Heads of departments)
  • Commercial/buying related experience in Retail/FMCG (desirable not essential).
  • Strong customer focus

  • Choose how our range is set up and flows into our network, influencing the route to market from the supply base to our stores & how to optimise availability across all channels.
  • Decide when and how to manage changes in consumer demand to maximise availability.
  • Use data insights & working in collaboration with stakeholders to take proactive action to achieve Supply Chain objectives.
