Role Overview:
The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing the end-to-end supply chain operations to ensure the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective flow of pharmaceutical products from suppliers to customers. This role plays a critical part in aligning supply chain strategy with commercial, operational, and regulatory objectives, while ensuring product availability, quality, and service excellence.
The role involves strategic planning, process improvement, inventory optimization, and supplier relationship management. The Supply Chain Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, lead cross-functional collaboration, and implement systems and technologies to enhance visibility, agility, and performance across the supply chain. This position also plays a key role in risk management, business continuity planning, and regulatory compliance, particularly within the framework of GDP and GMP standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Supply Chain Leadership
Develop and lead the supply chain strategy aligned to commercial, operational, and financial goals.
Deliver transformational change across systems, structures, and processes to support scalable growth.
Lead business continuity and supply chain risk management efforts (e.g., dual sourcing, geopolitical risk, inventory buffers).
2. Process and Operational Excellence
Identify, map, and re-engineer core supply chain processes to increase efficiency and reduce lead times.
Drive lean principles, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration across the supply chain.
Own and refine key supply chain KPIs (e.g., OTIF, inventory turns, forecast accuracy, backorders, working capital).
3. Stock & Inventory Optimisation
Define and implement best-in-class inventory management practices to reduce waste and improve availability.
Oversee demand planning and forecasting processes to align supply with market demand and minimise stockouts or overstocking.
Lead S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) processes across regions and business units.
4. Systems & Technology Integration
Champion the evaluation, selection, and implementation of supply chain technologies (e.g., ERP, forecasting tools, WMS).
Leverage data and digital tools to improve visibility, automation, and decision-making throughout the supply chain.
Work closely with IT and finance to ensure accurate data flow between systems and reporting platforms.
5. Supplier and Partnership Management
Set strategic direction for procurement and supplier performance management.
Build strong supplier relationships to ensure reliability, agility, and cost-effectiveness.
Negotiate key supply agreements and lead efforts to secure strategic supply continuity.
6. Leadership & Collaboration
Build and develop a high-performing supply chain team with a culture of accountability and innovation.
Act as a senior leader across the organisation, engaging with commercial, quality, finance, regulatory, and operational teams.
Present regular supply chain performance updates, risk assessments, and strategic proposals to the Board.
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential Experience
Proven experience in a senior supply chain leadership role within pharmaceuticals, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
Strong understanding of global and domestic supply chains, inventory management, procurement, and logistics.
Track record of leading transformational change, particularly in systems implementation (e.g., ERP/WMS) and process improvement.
In-depth knowledge of stock control, demand forecasting, and S&OP.
Strong commercial and financial acumen -- able to align supply chain strategy with broader business goals.
Desirable Experience
Knowledge of GDP/GxP regulatory frameworks.
Experience in international sourcing and third-party manufacturing relationships.
Experience managing high SKU portfolios across multi-site operations.
