Support and Maintainability Engineering Manager

The Opportunity

Do you have maintenance experience, are comfortable managing a team and able to travel to meet our customers around the world? Working for the Chief Service Engineer this is a new role created to focus on the in-service maintainability of our military aircraft.

You will be managing a team of specialist engineers who have come from both military and civil maintenance backgrounds. The team is responsible for the optimisation of flight servicing, reducing the maintenance footprint of our products and engaging with our customers through Maintenance Working Groups, Corrosion Working Groups and Scheduled Maintenance Reviews.

Through customer engagement and technical data exploitation, the team propose changes in maintenance practices, procedures, and adoption of industry best practice. This will include working with our System Reliability and Safety department, Product Improvement team and Equipment Suppliers for the introduction of reliability modifications and the development of new tooling.

Operating within the diverse military sector, each maintenance programme is tailored to the customers\xe2\x80\x99 aircraft configuration, operating spectrum, operating environment and deployments.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll be doing as a Support and Maintainability Engineering Manager;

Scheduled Maintenance Development (SMD);

  • Manage the definition and optimisation of the flight servicing & maintenance requirements for in-service aircraft and their constituent parts
  • Optimise maintenance requirements around customer operations to maximise aircraft availability
  • Minimise the maintenance footprint of the aircraft, reducing aircraft cost of ownership. This includes the development /optimisation of servicing tools and techniques
  • Provide the company strategic direction in the conduct of Scheduled Maintenance Development
  • New aircraft /customer major programmes \xe2\x80\x93 manage development and delivery of all SMD activity, flight and maintenance schedules - to meet contracted requirements
  • Influence new design \xe2\x80\x93 provide in-service SMD experience into Preliminary Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews as required
  • Support new customers in establishment of their operation
  • In-service support contracts \xe2\x80\x93 manage activity for maintenance optimisation, reduction and safety verification to meet contract requirements and targets
  • Meet applicable Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), Safety and Airworthiness regulatory requirements
Work with customers as part of the SMD activity;
  • Develop relationships
  • Understand customer operations and their requirements
  • Share best practice
  • Manage/lead customer maintenance working groups and forums
Project Management;
  • Ensure deliverables meet fully the requirements and needs of the customer, regulations and airworthiness as defined by the contract(s), ensuring that the product is delivered on time, to the right level of quality, and within agreed budget
  • Report regularly on financial aspects, risks, SOFT reporting to Product Support Engineering management and Integrated Project Teams (IPT) as required
Bids and Proposals;
  • Provision of data and costed proposals in support of Leonardo bid activity
Product and Programme IPTs;
  • Provide recommendations for product /customer development to optimise
  • Design influence for support through design reviews
  • Input to Equipment Performance Analysis (EPA) and Product Improvement
  • Attendance and input to IPT meetings as required
Governance;
  • Ensure that relevant data and information amassed and approved to support all deliverables in your area of responsibility is properly recorded, maintained and managed, so that it is auditable, and useable, and meets any relevant legislative and airworthiness requirements which may apply
  • Maintain RSMRs and PIMs
What we need from you;
  • Experience of civil or military aircraft maintenance operations
  • In-depth technical awareness gained from a formal technical / professional qualification or substantial industry experience
  • Experience of team management, the drive and ability to motivate a cross-functional and multidiscipline team
  • Experience and ability to project manage a range of requirements
  • Knowledge of associated Airworthiness and Flight Safety requirements and relevant Regulatory Articles or Part 21/145/M Regulations
  • Awareness of ILS engineering specialisations such as R&M, RCM, Level of Repair Analysis, In-service data analysis and exploitation and applicable / relevant standards
  • Awareness of commercial and contractual practices
  • The stature to communicate effectively at all levels within the Company, Suppliers and Customer organisations
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to national cultures, and the technical requirements of foreign military services
  • Innovative approach to problem solving, with strong orientation towards the delivery of results
