About Emmaus Hull & East Riding
Emmaus Hull & East Riding is a local charity, working together to provide a home, meaningful work, and support to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. We believe in empowering individuals (known as companions) to regain control of their lives through community living and purposeful activity.
Job Purpose
As a Support/Progression Worker, you will play a key role in supporting our companions to rebuild their lives and achieve their goals. This includes providing tailored support plans, encouraging engagement with internal work opportunities, and helping individuals access external services, training, and employment pathways.
You will work as part of a dedicated and compassionate team, promoting independence, wellbeing, and long-term resettlement for individuals who have experienced homelessness and multiple disadvantages.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain person-centered support plans in collaboration with companions.
Provide regular 1:1 support sessions and reviews to monitor progress and adjust plans accordingly.
Support companions in their journey of recovery, personal development, and re-integration into independent living.
Identify and address barriers to progression such as substance misuse, mental health, or lack of skills and qualifications.
Encourage participation in community life and work-related activities within Emmaus (e.g., retail, logistics, outreach).
Signpost and support access to specialist services including mental health, substance misuse, housing, and benefits advice.
Facilitate or coordinate training and development opportunities both internally and externally.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in line with data protection and safeguarding standards.
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure joined-up support.
Advocate on behalf of companions when engaging with agencies or attending appointments.
Contribute to the overall safety and wellbeing of the community, promoting an inclusive and supportive environment.
Attend team meetings, training, and reflective practice sessions.
Person Specification
Essential:
Experience of working with vulnerable adults or people with complex needs (e.g., homelessness, mental health, addiction).
Ability to develop trusting, supportive, and professional relationships.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed approaches.
Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing priorities.
Good IT and administrative skills.
Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and equality and diversity principles.
Desirable:
Qualification in social care, housing, or support work.
Experience of key working or case management.
Knowledge of the welfare benefits system and housing pathways.
Driving licence and access to a vehicle.
