Service Support Worker - Emergency Department



Location: University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, CF14 4XW



Contract type: Casual, as and when required. No set hours



Hours per week:

0 hour contract- to cover AL, sickness and vacancies. The service runs 7 days a week- 10am-8pm covering bank holidays as well.



Salary: 12.60 per hour


Driving: A Full UK Driving License is required to drive a British Red Cross vehicle

We are looking for a caring and resilient person, who can think on their feet in a pressured environment to join our Health and Care team as a

Service Support Worker.



Based in fast paced, busy and intense Emergency Department, you will provide practical and emotional support to patients. You will undertake non-medical tasks to free up the medical staff to be able to focus on their clinical role and make visitors' stay as comfortable as possible.

A day in the life of a Service Support worker will include:


Making a tea trolley and providing refreshments to patients One to one support with confused, dementia, etc patients Bereavement support Signposting and referring patients. Providing emotional support to patients, relatives and staff Providing practical support- blanket, pillow, sick bowl, etc

Please note that this service runs Monday to Sunday 10am to 8pm. As a casual staff member you will be providing cover for annual leave, bank holidays, sickness, vacancies, etc




To be a successful Service Support Worker, you'll need:




To be computer literate and confident using spreadsheets, emails, zoom, etc. To be confident in talking with staff and patients as well as comfortable writing information and being a good listener. A good knowledge of services provided by the NHS and Social Care. Education to GCSE level (or equivalent by experience).
