The role of each staff member of Croob Cottages is to support people who have learning disabilities and challenging behaviours to lead purposeful lives and to develop their skills and self-confidence, so that they can contribute to society and make a difference as individuals.

This post holder will work as part of the care team providing a high quality of care to the service users in Croob Cottage, ensuring person-centred and holistic practice is maintained, using the following guidelines;

Main responsibilities



1. To support people in activities of daily living

2. To support people in their maintenance of personal hygiene, grooming, toileting needs, and in some circumstances, they may require supervision and assistance with these tasks.

3. To support people in looking after their health needs and attend appointments with them if they need.

4. To support people with taking medication at the proper times, and be responsible for the administration of medication.

5. To support and assist people in planning holidays, and going with them if required.

6. To continually assess the needs and abilities of the service users and to support change in same.

7. To promote dignity, independence and choice at all times

8. To provide structure and routine for the service users, considering individual needs

9. To follow, where in place, a personalised behavioural programme, that may involve restrictive practices, or adversely reward programmes.

10. To assist in the planning of activities, and to implement same into daily life in Croob Cottage.

11. To assist the resident to maintain social, recreational, cultural and religious links through daily living activities, inside and outside the home

12. To build relationships with external agencies, including, employment, education and leisure, ensuring social inclusion for all service users.

13. To support service users accessing services and activities in the community, and to assist them on outings if required.

14. To support and assist people in planning holidays, and going with them if required.

15. To record accurately in the care plans of service users, making sure that they are completed accurately by other staff members.

16. Be responsible for maintaining accurate records, keeping in line with Croob Cottage's policies and procedures.

17. Communicate effectively with staff at all levels, regarding the care of the service users or any new information that needs to be made known to staff.

18. To carry out domestic duties including laundry and food preparation.

19. To be prepared to stay on site during inclement weather.

20. To report and record all contacts made with MDT and relatives accordingly.

This is not an exhaustive list of duties and the post holder may be required to undertake other duties, as may be required, to meet the needs of the service.



Good Practice Responsibilities



1. Carry out duties that ensure client health and safety and are in accordance with Croob Cottages health and safety procedure.

2. Comply with all instructions with regards to Infection Control and Prevention

3. Follow all policies and procedures as a member of staff of Croob Cottages.

4. To be flexible with regards to working hours, and to be committed to their job

5. To be cost-effective with regards to waste management.

Training and Professional Development



1. Be responsible for Continued Professional Development

2. Participate in formal and informal supervision in line with RQIA requirements and Croob Cottages Policies and Procedures.

3. Participate in in-service training courses

4. Be available to attend training courses that are outside of normal working hours

5. Be responsible for self-directed learning.

6. Become familiar with policies and procedures of Croob Cottages and update this knowledge regularly.

Records Management



All employees of Corriewood are legally responsible for all records held, including resident, corporate and administrative records. These include paper-based records and electronic, including fax and emails. All such records should be maintained under the Data Protection Act 1998 and should follow Croob Cottages policies on Confidentiality and Consent.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT



All employees have a responsibility to participate in regular Appraisals with their Manager and to identify Performance Standards of the Post. As part of the Appraisal process every employee is responsible for participating in identifying their own training and development need to meet those Performance Standards.
