Support Worker - Children & Young People

(Prevention, Transitions & Supported Living 16+)



Location:

Newport, Cwmbran & surrounding areas

Pay:

12.60 per hour (above the Real Living Wage)

We are seeking flexible Support Workers who can commit to 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. Additional shifts may be offered based on service demand and individual availability.

Touchstone Support Services (TSS) is expanding and looking for dedicated Support Workers to support children and young people with mental health needs, learning disabilities, complex trauma and substance misuse challenges to reach their full potential.

Our Focus

We support children and young people to:

Remain safely within their communities through early intervention Prevent crisis escalation, placement breakdown and restrictive environments Avoid admission to secure children's homes, CAMHS inpatient wards and crisis units Successfully transition from secure care, inpatient mental health settings or residential placements back into the community Develop independence through our 16+ supported living model, enabling a positive transition into adulthood
Who We Support

Young people aged

8-25

with:

Moderate to severe mental health needs Learning disabilities and/or autism High-risk behaviours or exploitation concerns (CSE/CCE) Substance misuse or dual-diagnosis needs Complex trauma, attachment difficulties or adverse childhood experiences
Your Role

You will:

Build trusting, therapeutic relationships using trauma-informed approaches Support emotional regulation and resilience through Positive Behaviour Support Promote independence including budgeting, self-care, cooking, tenancy skills and daily routines Encourage engagement in community activities such as education, fitness, creativity and sports Work collaboratively with CAMHS, social workers, families and partner agencies Contribute to safeguarding, risk assessments and safety planning Empower young people to set goals and make meaningful progress toward adulthood
What We're Looking For

?

Full UK Driving Licence - Essential


(Community access and transport required)

? Experience or strong interest in working with individuals affected by:

Mental health challenges, trauma, learning disabilities or substance misuse Challenging or high-risk behaviours Transitions into adulthood or semi-independent living
? Confidence in lone working and maintaining professional boundaries
? Calm, proactive and solution-focused approach
? Flexibility to work varied shifts across multiple locations

Desirable Experience

? Residential childcare
? 16+ semi-independent supported living
? Mental health inpatient settings
? Emergency services, armed forces, prison or secure environments
? Community outreach or crisis response
? Young parents and baby support

Desirable Training & Knowledge

(Training provided if not already achieved)

Trauma-informed practice / ACEs / PACEs PACE Model Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Trauma Recovery Model (TRM) PMVA / De-escalation & conflict management Safeguarding (children & adults) Risk assessment & safety planning
