To provide support to service users in a way that is respectful, promotes independence and enables the individuals you support to realise their own potential. To promote good practice at all times and act as an effective and positive role model. This may also include supporting individuals to access the community, or in any setting their needs and choices may require.
Day Support Workers may work alone with the people they support, or as part of a team.
Day Support Workers may provide support to individuals in a variety of different specialist needs and conditions which may include learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries, physical disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, mental health conditions, neurological impairments.
Day Support Workers may provide support in any location appropriate to meet the needs of the service. Those areas are mostly but not limited to, Taunton, Wellington, Wiveliscombe and occasionally Minehead.
Duties
Support individuals with daily tasks, ensuring they maintain their independence as much as possible.
Engage clients in social activities and companionship to promote mental well-being.
Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, adhering to health and safety regulations.
Provide first aid when necessary and ensure that all care practices are compliant with relevant policies..
Participating in the development and implementation of individuals' support plans and risk assessments to encourage the people you support to take an active role in all aspects of daily living and ensure the appropriate level of individual support is identified.
Undertaking and/or assisting individuals with activities in order to promote a healthy environment for the people you support and the promotion of independent living.
Participating, planning and running of the day-to-day activities of the service in accordance with the choices of the people you support.
Complete relevant training to develop professionally and gain skills that benefit Meadowbank and those you support.
Attending, participating and contributing to team meetings when required in order to ensure that all issues relating to the management of the service are fully understood, and to promote communication within the team.
Undertake duties to ensure no person is discriminated on the grounds of age, disability, sex, pregnancy, maternity, race (which includes colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins), gender identity, sexual orientation, religion or belief, veteran status or any other protected status under the law. Support Meadowbank in promoting an inclusive diverse culture.
Ensuring all policies and procedures applicable to the service are followed and understood in order to comply with regulations and good practice.
Carry out duties in compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and subsequent Health and Safety legislation.
You may be required to undertake other duties appropriate to your post and/or hours of work as may reasonably be required of you on an occasional or frequent basis to meet the needs of service provision.
Requirements
Previous experience in care settings such as day service, assisted living, nursing homes, or home care is highly desirable.
Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine passion for helping others.
Experience in working with individuals whatever walks of life.
Knowledge of first aid practices is advantageous.
A valid driving licence is essential for transporting clients.
A desire to want to support and empower people with disabilities.
Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients and healthcare professionals.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team in a dynamic environment.
A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting the dignity of all clients.
