Job Description

Support Worker:

The role of the Support Worker at Aspace2 involves providing comprehensive support to individuals across our diverse services. This includes supporting adults within

Day Opportunities

to develop independence and life skills, as well as providing direct support during

Children's Short Break sessions

held on evenings and weekends.

The Support Worker will oversee the staff team on shift to ensure the smooth running of activities and the highest standard of care.

Main Responsibilities. Supporting Adult Day Opportunities & Children's Short Breaks

Provide hands-on emotional, physical, and practical support to adult trainees and children.

Direct Support:

Actively participate in and support

Children's Short Break sessions

during evenings and weekends, ensuring a safe and engaging environment. Assist adult trainees within

Day Opportunities

to build essential life skills, numeracy, and literacy. Plan and deliver individual and group

programmes

that align with the Aspace2 learning pathways.
2. Team Coordination & Supervision

Provide guidance and first-level advice to Support Workers during shifts. Ensure that all activities, whether in adult day sessions or children's short breaks, are progressing as planned and meet the needs of the individuals. Lead shifts effectively, ensuring all tasks are carried out in line with Aspace2's policies and procedures. Assist in the onboarding and practical training of new staff members.
3. Compliance, Recording & Reporting

Maintain detailed daily records of activities and progress for both adults and children. Complete monthly progress reports and review checklists alongside trainees. Ensure all activities comply with organisational policies, health and safety regulations, and legal requirements. Support the Operations Manager in maintaining standards required by external regulatory bodies.
4. Activity Development

Organise

and facilitate creative sessions such as arts, crafts, gardening, or community outings to keep participants motivated. Ensure that activities are inclusive and tailored to the specific age group and ability level on site.
CriteriaEssential Experience & Qualifications:

A strong understanding of mental health and/or learning disabilities.

One of the following:

NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care plus 1 years of paid employment in a health and social care setting.

OR

2 years of paid employment experience in a health and social care setting.
Skills and Attributes:

Flexibility:

A mandatory requirement to work flexible hours, including

evenings and weekends

to support the Short Breaks service.

Leadership:

Ability to lead a team by example and solve problems effectively under pressure.

Communication:

Excellent written and verbal communication for report writing and team briefings.

Risk Assessment:

Proficient in identifying and managing risks in a social care environment.

Driving Licence:

A full, valid UK driving

licence

and access to a vehicle is required (alternative mobility solutions considered for those with a disability).
