Job Description



Support Carer for 11.5 year old who is living with the impact of sustaining a brain injury.

Pay:

18.00 weekdays, 20.00 per hour weekends.

Location:

Private family home (location withheld for privacy), and out and about in her local community.

Contract Type: Part-time, with potential for additional hours following successful probation

Probation: 6 months (with review at 3 months)

Session Times (Initial)

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Mornings:

7:30 am - 8:30 am

Afternoons:

3.30pm - 7.15pm (

) There is some potential for flexibility in hours, please do enquire if other days, and/or an earlier afternoon finish time may suit.

Role Summary



We are looking to recruit a female support worker to assist this individual who is living with the impact of sustaining a brain injury, within her family home, and out and about in their local community.

The role involves working one-to-one with her, whilst with her family; it includes play, social activity, afterschool activity, personal care, and therapy-based activities. The support you provide will be one of primarily hands off supervision, and promote independence and wellbeing.

The successful candidate will have a sense of fun and a desire to see others at their best; they will work closely with parents, therapists, and the case manager, and be also able to employ a calm, respectful, and patient approach.

Key Responsibilities



oDuring the mornings - involves assisting with daily living activity and personal care will be the focus of the role. This may include assisting her to get and eat her breakfast, washing and dressing, and managing personal care that she is fully dependent for, as directed by the family, therapists, and the case manager.

oDuring the afternoons - involves assisting with the afterschool routines, completing homework and therapy type activities, playing games together, watching movies and TV programmes together, and planning activities for next sessions.

Following successful probation there may be opportunity to visit the local park, cafes, the beach, sensory facility and such like together.

You may also be asked to be present during hydrotherapy sessions held at a local specialist pool.

oDevelop and maintain a good working relationship with her, her family, and those around her, employing a sense of encouragement and fun, as is relevant to her and them at that time(s). Always having the aim of enhancement of progress and wellbeing to her potential.

oMaintain a safe and clean environment, including light household chores related to the support worker role.

oSafely operate specialist equipment, which involves height adjustable change/therapy bench, supportive dining chair wheelchair, and sensory and play equipment.

Please note - you will not be required to lift her in any instance.

oAccurately record input/assistance provided; this will primarily be by means of a designated work phone/app provided.

oAttend training sessions and team meetings; contribute to therapy and care reviews and planning.

oWork collaboratively with family, therapists, and other carers, including potential provision of support alongside a second worker.

oMaintain strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

oAfter probation, be prepared to drive her using your own vehicle; this may be to collect from school, visit local parks, cafe's, the beach and such like.

Person Specification



oFemale applicants only (personal care requirement).

oPrevious experience supporting children or young people who are deemed to have additional needs is preferred.

oWith relevant training and instruction be confident in using specialist equipment and understanding seizure management.

oBe physically fit to be able to push her wheelchair, and manage short bursts of running, (for example if she choose to run, albeit slowly, at the park).

oGood English communication skills; GCSE English (and preferably Maths) or equivalent.

oReliable, empathetic, a sense of play and fun, and professional, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

oFull UK driving licence.

oFlexible availability as prior to, and following a successful probation there will be potential for adjusted hours and/or night shifts during school holidays.

oBe comfortable being away from her and her family whilst in the family home, for example, by yourself in the designated room, whilst tidying, writing up records, planning, and such like.

oBe prepared to complete a structured induction and training programme, along with future relevant training following successful probation.

oBe prepared to undergo the required background checks.

oBe willing to adhere to family house rules and maintain a professional, casual, not revealing, appearance.

oThe role may involve quiet downtime, when preparing activities, reading, maintaining records, when your direct input is not required during the session.
