We are seeking a reliable, empathetic, and proactive Support Worker to join our team, providing dedicated support to a male client with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and associated challenging behaviour. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in someone's life by supporting them both at home and in the community.
You will primarily work in the client's family home in LE3, with occasional trips out (e.g., Swimming and Art Therapy), always accompanied by another staff member. Access to your own vehicle is essential (mileage reimbursed).
Shifts Available
A mixture of shifts is available from weekday, weekend and one night shift per month on a Friday night.
Key Responsibilities
Provide personal care and support with daily routines, including morning activities and meal preparation.
Engage the client in meaningful activities such as long walks, swimming, and creative projects.
Foster a calm, structured environment, avoiding noisy or overwhelming settings.
Work collaboratively with another staff member during 2:1 shifts to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
Support the client's learning and development, including reading and other therapeutic activities.
Drive the client to activities and appointments as required.
Communicate effectively and work in partnership with the client's family, especially his mother.
You will provide both 1:1 and 2:1 care, working individually as well in a team.
About You
Essential:
Valid UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
Experience supporting individuals with complex behavioural, emotional and sensory needs.
Experience in working with care and crisis plans and to be able to follow these plans effectively
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to engage with a number of stakeholders.
Able to attend Swim Sessions and confidently swim independently with the client
Ability to deal with high pressure situations, conflicting demands and de-escalate situations
Able to accurately recording information and incidents
Confident in maintaining professional boundaries
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to use effective communication strategies such as visual cues.
Commitment to the client's well-being and interests (including Marvel, DC Comics, Doctor Who).
Calm, empathetic, resilient, perseverance and patient in approach.
You must be able to recognise Anxiety and distressful situations and respond to them accordingly
Requirements
Enhanced DBS check (we will arrange this if you are employed directly; existing update service DBS accepted for agency transfers).
Willingness to undertake training during the probationary period, focusing on the client's specific needs and behaviour management strategies.
Committed to continuous professional development and have evidence of training relevant to SEND and complex behaviour
Training and evidence of de-escalation restraint and conflict resolution
