Support Worker (part Time, Core & Bank Opportunities)

Job Description

We are currently seeking to recruit a friendly and trustworthy support worker to work alongside a family, therapy team and case manager to support an energetic 15-year-old boy with complex care needs, in his own home.

Our Client enjoys going out on day trips, shopping, watching films, listening to music, spending time with his friends, and engaging in creative and messy play. He loves to spend time in his walker outside, being active in the community but also having days in with lots of interactive activities. The Client has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and requires 24/7 care which includes manual handling and full personal care. He is non-verbal but communicates via multiple communication aids and is strong at expressing himself with help of gestures, eye pointing, tone of voice and using eye - gaze technology. The Client's cognitive ability is high so it is important that he receives age related stimulation. He needs a high level of emotional support and therefore requires engaged, proactive, reactive and a passionate team members. His emotional wellbeing is as important as his physical wellbeing and any support worker will need to feel comfortable and confident addressing emotional distress in a professional and calm manner taking into account the challenges that come with growing up, particularly as a child with multiple additional needs.

The Client has a full therapy team in place including Physio, OT, SLT, Clinical Psychologist and Conductive Education, and it will be essential that you are able to liaise with and work alongside these professionals. This role will require you to play an integral part in the client's morning and after school routine. During the mornings you assist with the school run, either driving to school or supporting by sitting with him in the car. During the afternoons you will be required to collect the client from school and ensure that his extensive daily routine is adhered to, including working towards therapy targets engaging in play/activities. A proactive approach is essential as well as maintaining consistency with routines already in place. Is important for the client to be engaged in activities which provide him with stimulation.

You will need to have had some experience of working with children, preferably within the community and with Brain Injuries, with a minimum of 3 years overall experience working in the care sector as a carer. Full training on the child's specific needs will be given.

Working Hours and Availability:

We are currently looking to recruit three support workers to cover different shift patterns, ensuring consistent and high-quality care for our client. Each role has specific expectations regarding hours and flexibility to accommodate the client's routine and needs.

1. Regular Part-Time Support Worker (12 Hours per Week):

This role involves working 12 hours per week across designated days. The shift pattern typically includes:

Sunday: 07:00 - 19:00 or 09:00 - 21:00

Additional shifts may be required to cover occasional changes to the client's routine or during school holidays.

2. Core Support Worker (25.5 Hours per Week):

This position requires a commitment of 25.5 hours per week, with flexibility to work across 7 days a week. The core shift patterns include:

Monday: 14:00 - 19:00

Tuesday: 07:00 - 10:30 and 14:00 - 19:00

Weekends and School Holidays: 07:00 - 19:00 or 09:00 - 21:00

Flexibility is required to cover occasional absences from school due to ill health or therapy appointments.

3. Bank Support Worker (As Required):

The bank support worker will provide ad hoc cover for annual leave, sickness, and other unforeseen circumstances. This role requires a high degree of flexibility to cover shifts such as:

Weekdays: 07:00 - 10:30 and 14:00 - 19:00

Weekends and School Holidays: 07:00 - 19:00 or 09:00 - 21:00

Waking Nights: As required.

We aim to offer a competitive salary of 15.60 - 17.68 per hour, depending on experience and shift times/ days.

This role will suit someone who is proactive and motivated. You must be able to work well with the family and existing team and have hands on experience working with children with additional needs. Communication is key and therefore you will need to have experience with alternative communication methods such as caring for someone with audio impairments and/ or using alternative communication methods. You will need great verbal communication skill, and knowledge of Makaton would be a bonus. The client requires emotional support throughout the day from team members with a proactive, positive and alert caring style. Emotional maturity and a reassuring, calming approach is essential for this role.
