About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated
Support Worker
to join the team at
Apple Tree House
, an Ofsted-rated "GOOD" specialist residential care service for children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced support worker to provide high-quality, person-centred care during waking night shifts in a therapeutic and supportive environment.??
As a Support Worker at Apple Tree House, you will work as part of a committed staff team to ensure a safe, supportive and caring environment that meets the individual and group needs of the children and young people in residence. You will demonstrate a positive, person-centred approach at all times, enabling young people to live as independently as possible whilst respecting their dignity, privacy and individual choices.?

previously worked at Apple Tree House
and is willing to travel 100% as needed. Please note that

Key Responsibilities
Your key duties and responsibilities as a Support Worker will include:??
Direct Care and Support:
Working as a full and effective member of the staff team, communicating efficiently with colleagues and other professionals
Offering individualised support to service users consistent with the aims and objectives of the service
Providing practical and emotional support to young people while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
Acting as an enabler for service users, working
with
them rather than
for
them to promote independence
Giving support with personal care routines, including assistance with washing, bathing, and hygiene where needed
Contributing to planning, delivering and reviewing care plans as agreed with each service user
Supporting young people in their decision-making processes and respecting their life choices
Safeguarding and Rights:
Ensuring that service users' rights are always respected in line with the Human Rights Act and Mental Capacity Act 2005?
Following Deprivation of Liberty (DOL) guidelines at all times?
Adhering to safeguarding policies to protect vulnerable young people from all forms of abuse, neglect or harm?
Demonstrating respect for service users and recognising their value as individuals, including their right to privacy and dignity?
Night Shift Specific Duties:
Remaining awake and alert throughout the night shift to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents?
Monitoring the health and wellbeing of young people, conducting regular checks as outlined in care plans?
Responding promptly to any emergencies or needs that arise during the night?
Administering medication according to treatment plans and maintaining accurate records?
Providing companionship, reassurance and emotional support during nighttime hours?
Conducting regular building security checks, including fire safety systems and access points?
Undertaking light domestic duties such as cleaning, laundry and meal preparation during quieter periods?
Administration and Professional Development:
Completing accurate written records and administrative duties as designated by the service manager?
Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with organisational policies and the Data Protection Act?
Participating in staff appraisals, supervisions and team meetings?
Completing timesheets on a weekly basis?
Undertaking training (on or off-site) as directed by the service manager?
Adhering to health and safety guidelines as advised by the organisation?
Reporting broken or faulty equipment to senior staff promptly?
Essential Requirements
Experience and Qualifications:
Previous experience working at Apple Tree House
is essential for this role
Experience working as a Support Worker in residential care settings, particularly with children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD or associated behavioural challenges??
Understanding of person-centred care approaches and enabling independence?
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation (Human Rights Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty guidelines)?
Skills and Competencies:

Ability to work effectively and supportively as a member of the staff team
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Basic literacy and numeracy skills
Ability to work in an organised and methodical manner
Capability to act on own initiative and deal with unexpected problems

About Apple Tree House
Apple Tree House is situated on the outskirts of Weymouth, Dorset, with easy access to main routes in and out of the town. The service provides specialist residential care for up to four children and young people aged up to 18, regardless of gender, who have moderate to severe learning difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated behavioural challenges.?
The home has been carefully adapted to provide specialist accommodation and the staff team has undergone specialist training in using the PACE approach. Apple Tree House works closely with children and young people to support them in all aspects of their care, focusing on personal development and successful transitions into adulthood. A strong emphasis is placed on children having fun, enjoying life to the maximum, and maintaining positive relationships with parents, carers and significant others.?
