Job Summary
You will support young people who have been missing as a direct result of being exploited through county lines. You will also work with many parents and carers who need support and advocacy because their child is being criminally exploited. You will provide a safe and confidential space for them to talk through their experiences and to disclose any harm and ongoing adverse experiences they have suffered. You will be a strong advocate for young people and families, working with them and other agencies to ensure they get the help they need to stay safe, and to reduce the risks of harm they face. You will have significant experience providing support to safeguard vulnerable young people and families and have in-depth knowledge of the issues affecting young people who are at risk through their exposure to gangs, county lines, child criminal exploitation and missing episodes. You will also be an effective communicator who is able to build trust and positive relationships between families, young people, and various professionals.
The dedicated SafeCall casework team operates 10:00 - 20:00 on weekdays and 11:00 - 17:00 on weekends and is responsible for providing safeguarding, practical and emotional support, casework, advocacy, practical advice and emotional support. The SafeCall team work collaboratively with the Helplines team who provide anonymous expert crisis support, safeguarding, safety planning, signposting and referrals out of hours capacity 9:00 - 22:00 365 days a year. These two teams ensure the full wraparound SafeCall service.
Key Accountabilities
Deliver supportive interventions to families, carers, children, and young people who have been missing through involvement with gangs & county lines
Speak up for children, young people, parents and carers who are at risk
Support children, young people, parents and carers through on-going support
Deliver training and represent the charity at external events
About you
You must have the right to work in the UK. The person specification in the job description provides full details of what we are looking for, and this includes:
Experience
Significant experience working directly to support at risk young people and families in a social care, statutory or voluntary sector setting;
Significant experience of successfully advocating for young people and families to get the support they need from other agencies;
Experience of assessing needs, recognising risk and implementing safeguarding procedures to safeguard children, young people or vulnerable adults.
Abilities, Skills and Knowledge
Working (proven) knowledge of the following:
the particular risks faced by children and young people who are missing, associated with a gang, involved in county lines and experiencing child criminal exploitation
effective methods for safeguarding children and young people who are missing, associated with a gang, involved in county lines and experiencing child criminal exploitation
challenges related to the safeguarding of vulnerable children / young people
the risks and support needs of families who are affected by county lines, child criminal exploitation, gangs and missing
how statutory services respond to victims of county lines and child criminal exploitation and their families
