Hours:



Looking for two new support staff to work with a 24-year-old man with Cerebral Palsy. We are hoping for five day per week cover between the two staff that includes a joint shift early Wednesday evening for hydrotherapy and for one staff to accompany to one evening activity per week.

This amounts to approx. 40 hours per week of total care and we are happy to have set days or an alternating 2 week shift pattern to cover the hours.

You would also be asked to provide occasional evening and holiday/sickness cover.

The hours per person would be approx. 20 hours per week each. There is a provisional rota pattern.

Pay:



16.00 per hour weekday rate.

Our client is a delightful 24-year-old man with cerebral palsy and associated complex care needs. He is currently working hard and enjoying Physiotherapy weekly. He has a busy weekly routine that include travelling to physiotherapy in Hull, drama sessions at Castaway in Goole and other activities including a vocational role at the holiday park where he has a Lodge. You will support him to attend and participate in all these activities.

He lives with his loving, supportive parents, in a purpose-built bungalow. We are hoping the new staff will be able to provide occasional morning /evening routine if required.

Our client also enjoys occasional holidays with his support team so flexibility to accompany him once or twice pre year is essential.

Staff need to be motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individuals with a commitment to supporting our client to enable him to live a full, active, and fulfilling life as possible.

You will work closely with his family and follow specific plans of care which include a range of therapies, social and recreational activities within the home and the local community. You will receive full support from the Case Manager as well as a team of professionals, with the opportunity to develop your skills through training with the wider team. He is involved in therapeutic and social activities with which you will be expected to support him, but we also hope your involvement will enable him to develop further interests, activities, or work roles. A positive, imaginative, and fun approach is needed to be effective.

You will be undertaking a range of duties to support him including hoisting, full personal care, hydrotherapy and carrying out physio and speech therapy programmes. You will need to be able to drive his Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle and prepared to assist him at hydrotherapy at home. You will work closely with other members of the team in providing the highest standards of care and support.

Our client is always keen to try new things so his weekly routine may be subject to some alteration as time progresses.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:



Client Specific:



Meeting personal care needs including showering, dressing, teeth cleaning, nail care, continence care, nutrition, feeding, physical well-being and general health.

Following Moving and Handling guidance to assist our client in his wheelchair during the day and with transfers as needed. Experience with using hoisting equipment is preferred but not essential.

Follow Speech and Language guidance to enable most effective communication between our client and yourself and facilitation with Communication with others if communication.

Providing appropriate therapeutic and leisure activities in the home and wider community.

Driving the client's vehicle

Administer any medication prescribed as agreed with the family and keep a written record of all drugs administered as per the Medication Policy.

To monitor care and medical supplies and, if running low, notify the Case Manager so that the stock can be replenished.

Personal skills:



Be able to show sensitivity and consideration when working with the client's family within their home.

To be imaginative and creative in finding new interests and activities for and with the client.

Develop good communication skills specific to the client following the advice given by the care and therapy co-ordinator and the team of therapists.

Be reliable and punctual, to be open to and willing to obtain additional training and develop your skills

General:



Driving the WAV vehicle

Maintaining the client's safety in all environments

Attending support team review meetings

To undertake some household duties as and when necessary and assist with the cleaning of specific equipment and resources.

To comply with relevant legislation and care plans.

Promote effective communication and relationships with your client, his family, and the care team.

Contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse.

Establish and maintain a trusting, therapeutic, working relationship with the client, his family, care team, therapy team and case management team.

Be responsible for the client's personal welfare

Travel to clinics or elsewhere for therapeutic care

Complete daily records as advised including time sheets, daily record sheets, medication sheets, petty cash sheets and critical incidents.

Attend review meetings with the employer and other persons as nominated by the employer

Attend training sessions as arranged

Be reliable and punctual; alert the care and therapy co-ordinator and family, at the earliest possible opportunity, if unable to attend for work in an emergency or in case of illness.

In an emergency and in case of illness, to be flexible and to stand in for other staff members.

To maintain expected high standards of care and report any breaches in professional practice to the care and therapy co-ordinator/Case Manager.
