The role of a support worker can be wide and varied. Our focus is to enable vulnerable adults to live the life they choose. Tasks can include enabling people to live independently in their own homes, develop their life skills, meet their personal care needs, or access the community for social activities. Support workers work creatively and flexibly to meet the needs of the people we support, carrying out tasks with compassion and thought.

- This role may include regular sleep-in shifts for which an extra payment is made (This means sleeping over at the residence, with the possibility you might have to wake up to provide care in the night.)

- Can work as part of a team and to learn from the people around you.

- Have the confidence to work independently.

- Have good written and verbal communication skills.

- Can follow a written support plan and to use your own initiative.

- Are committed to engaging in training, learning and development.

- Have the right to work in the UK.

Some services require a sleep-in service: on these services you sleep in a dedicated staff bedroom in clients' homes between an evening and morning shift. You are on call during this period and may be woken up and need to support client during the night. Are you happy to do this? A waking night service is provided as part of some services; this involves supporting clients and being awake through the night. An enhanced rate is paid for this type of shift. Are you prepared to work ad-hoc night shifts if needed? The role involves working unsociable hours which can include early mornings from 7.00am, evenings until 11pm and weekends on a Rota basis. Many of our clients need support on every day of the year; are you therefore prepared to work on a Rota basis including Bank Holidays, Eid, Easter, Christmas and New Year? Part of the role may involve supporting people with personal care needs, this may include assistance with eating, bathing, showering and going to the toilet. Do you feel able to do this? The role requires travel throughout Sheffield to travel with the people we support as well as travelling between shifts. Are you prepared to travel as part of the role? Are you willing to work flexibly and at short notice to help cover staff absence as required?
