Background Information
We are seeking a support worker for a 60-year-old man with severe learning disabilities and cerebral palsy. He has good vision and hearing. He has a limited range of vocabulary, although communicates well with familiar people. The team in place have been there for a number of years and were looking for someone to be the final puzzle piece for a gentleman with a lovable personality.
He is a happy and content person most of the time but does have some minor behaviour problems. You will always be busy, as the person we support loves to complete a wide range of activities at home and sometimes outside the home too.
We are looking for a support worker that can really support with reaching goals, supporting wit all aspects of daily living and living his best life possible. A routine is really important, and consistency is key.
RC has his own day room, bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Accommodation for the support workers includes overnight room, office and en-suite bathroom.
There is a supportive team in place, there is a team leader and a team of support workers. There is a range of shifts which include, days, sleep nights, and evenings, so flexibility is paramount.
Key responsibilities
To provide safe, reliable care and support that is centred on the person we supports needs and wishes ensuring this is done in the least restrictive way. Administering medication, engaging in activities, some household tasks. This involves respecting his choices and always promoting his dignity. You will build positive relationships with him, his team and other health and social care professionals.
Duties
Care and support
Give non-discriminatory care and support that values the diverse and unique qualities of the person we support. Carefully listen and observe how he prefers his care and support to be delivered on a day-to-day basis. Help them make their own decisions and to be as independent as possible.
Follow instructions in the care and support plan which has been agreed with case managers and/or other professionals. This may include:
Dressing and personal care
Toileting and continence care etc.
Encouraging, reminding; assisting and giving medicines
Meal preparation
Feeding
Sitting, repositioning and transfers
Standing and mobility if able.

Ironing
Keeping his bedroom and bathroom tidy
Keeping communal areas tidy
Musical keys
Participate in all therapy and stimulation programmes as directed and to provide a stimulating and enjoyable environment , throughout the day particularly when he is at home.
Recording and reporting
Record and report all relevant information including:
The care and support that you provide and assistance with medicines.
Reporting and changes or other concerns - you may be one of the few people your client sees regularly over a period of time, it is therefore essential to report any changes or causes for concern to your line manager promptly. You need to be clear about when to seek help and advice in order to keep client safe and promote their well-being.
Faulty equipment or hazards in the home
Response to emergencies, accidents and incidents
Safeguarding matters
Contact with families or care workers and other professionals.
Keep all information about customers and their families secure and confidential.
Requirements
Follow Care policies, procedures and guidance at all times
Take part in individual supervision, team meetings and appraisals.
Attend training activities and appraisal and development meetings

As this employment is based in the private home it is inevitable that on occasions the support workers will become privy to certain matters relating to the personal life and business affairs. These too should be treated with the utmost confidentiality and, whenever possible, the support workers and the team leader should avoid coming into contact with the family's personal belongings and correspondence.
