Job Description

Motivated, patient and enthusiastic people are required to work a 24-hour shift, starting at 14:00pm on Friday and finishing the following afternoon at 14:00pm on Saturday (sleeping at the client's property 24:00-08:00). This shift will be alternate weeks only.

Our client, an adult male, lives in his own purposely adapted home in the Stalybridge area with his Labrador puppy. The client suffered an injury a few years ago and as a result he mobilises in a wheelchair, he needs assistance with moving and handling, physiotherapy exercises, medication, personal hygiene and carrying out activities of daily living. You will undertake household tasks such as laundry, preparing simple meals and general cleaning.

You like dogs as this role would require that you also interact with the puppy (Archie) and assist our client taking care of him, including walking, training, playing with and meeting the general care needs of the puppy (including cleaning up after him).

On occasions you will be required to attend to the client during the night to make him a drink or snack, to give him a painkiller or to make him comfortable in bed.

You will be expected to drive the client to social and community activities, including hydrotherapy, in his wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV). Our client is friendly, personable and enjoys socialising, meeting friends and family and watching all types of sport on TV.

You must have commitment to promoting and maintaining an independent lifestyle for an individual with significant care needs. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills while delivering care to an individual in his own home.

Undertaking a range of duties to support the client, you will work closely with other members of the team in providing the highest standards of health care.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, backed by previous health care experience, however full training will be given to those with the right approach and attitude.

The post requires that you work independently to a very great extent. The post therefore requires that you work and conduct yourself in a manner that is acceptable to the employer. Reliability, integrity and complete trustworthiness are essential attributes in this post.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:



To establish and maintain a trusting, therapeutic, working relationship with client, family & Case Manager

To support the client in line with the Care Plan guidelines

To promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the workplace.

To promote effective communication with all parties.

To contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse.

To liaise with other agencies when required.

To complete daily records as advised including time sheets, daily records, care plan summary and critical incidents, petty cash etc

To attend supervision, team meetings and other meetings with the employer and other persons as nominated by the employer.

To attend training sessions as arranged at the office in Bury

To carry out therapy sessions as advised by treating professionals.

To support the client to engage in activities, hobbies & interests within the home and in the community.

Any other reasonable task or intervention that is required of you to ensure all aspects of the client's health and social care needs are met.

Northern Case Management (NCM) was established in 1997 to provide support to people with acquired neurological damage (i.e. brain and spinal cord injury) and empower them to develop their full potential and enrich their lifestyle through providing a comprehensive client focused service.

NCM work closely with the client and their family or representative to provide tailored support packages for clients in their own homes.

The client or their deputy can be the employer or NCM can be the employer. The Deputy is the employer for this client.

What we're looking for from you:



Experience in care and a full driving licence is essential.

The ability to work safely with clients - Applicants must be willing to undergo appropriate screening.

This includes checks with past employers and an Enhanced Disclosure via the DBS.
