JOB SUMMARY


We are looking for a caring, dynamic individual that will operate as a Support Worker at
Empower Community Centre.

We provide day-care services for adults with learning disabilities within a friendly and fun environment. Our day-care services are centred around our service users to enable them to thoroughly enjoy the 'Empower' experience by partaking in the varied activities on offer at the Centre. We also provide outreach-based support to enable service users to reach their goals and access the community. For this to happen, we need someone just like you to join our team.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Supporting Service users to engage in activities at our day centre or in the community
(outreach). This includes 2:1, 1:1 and group work.

Completing daily logs and communication books, to participate in the development of care plans.



Supporting Service users to work on their goals and outcomes. Liaising and cooperating with the Shift leader and Management Team to ensure activities and schedules run smoothly and meet the needs of the service. Possibly being a keyworker for one or more Service users. To work as part of a team to assist in personal care and a range of activities relevant to the individual with care needs1 To assist with organising and delivering a programme of appropriate & achievable, therapeutic & recreational activities to enhance the lives & improve the well-being of clients attending the day centre. Some of the activities you will be asked to take part in include but is not limited to baking, swimming, gym, bowling, allotment and woodwork. To provide emotional support, companionship, and a safe environment for those in need of supervision and help. To assist in events on the programme giving regard to client health and safety, ability, comfort & enjoyment. To assist in the administration of medication. To carry out basic first aid and summon emergency services if required. To undertake other duties as required, under the direction of the line manager.

To participate in training and development appropriate to role including mandatory training Ensure that knowledge base is kept up to date and have an awareness of legislation and other relevant updates To be a positive role model with other colleagues in terms of your own continuous professional development To participate in identifying key performance indicators a personal development plan, training, and supervision with line manager

HEALTH & SAFETY:



To implement, operate and maintain safety systems in accordance with ECC policies procedures and guidance, training and associated risk assessments. To report to your line manager any situations or issues for concern relating to significant foreseeable risks, incidents (including near misses) an/or accidents which give cause for concern in relation to safe systems of work (affecting your own health and safety or that of others affected by your work activities. To comply with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and with ECC policy, paying particular attention to the reporting of dangerous situations. To acknowledge own level of responsibility regarding Health & Safety.

PERSON SPECIFICATION - SUPPORT WORKER:



Skills Essential Desirable



An ability to key-work and support Service users with learning disabilities, dual diagnosis, autism and mental health, keeping excellent goals/outcomes records and support plans.

Good communication skills (written & verbal) and an ability to complete monitoring forms and reports, communicate with a wide range of people e.g Service Users, family members, community workers etc

An understanding of supporting Service users with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs.

A willingness to undertake training and CPD as and when required by ECC.

An ability to update risk assessments, support plans, schemes of work and one-page profiles in line with the Social Care Commitment and Continuing Professional
Development (CPD).

Experience of supporting adults with autism, complex behaviour and mental health issues, behaviours that challenge, learning disabilities and severe learning disabilities

A willingness to work across different sites as and when required e.g. due to annual leave, staff absence and the needs of the service.

An understanding of the importance of administration tasks e.g., daily logs, incident forms, activity check lists and an ability to complete them and send them to ECC
