Job Description

Daytime support and companionship for Mr D, typically between 13:00 - 16:00 Mondays, 11:00 - 14:00 Thursdays and Saturdays - approx. 9 hours per week. Double pay if working Bank Holidays

Staff provide support with personal care, mobility, food preparation and household tasks. An important part of the role is engaging Mr D in communication, social and leisure activities during the day, both at home and in the community.

Every 10/12 weeks support with taking Mr D to London. (car provided, support worker to be insured under Mr D's insurance)

About Mr D



Mr D lives in Clacton-On-Sea and requires a Support Worker/Buddy to help him to access his local community, help him to create a social network, support him in living in his own home, and facilitate planning and decision making.

Mr D has a limited range of vocabulary, however, communicates well with his Ipad using text options, additionally being able to sign using gestures with his hands. He has a great sense of humour and has a loveable personality and enjoys having a joke.

Mr D has reduced mobility; he uses his walking stick for shorter distances and would require a wheelchair for longer distances. He is able to make decisions around his preferred way of mobilising.

Mr D has a brain injury and resides within a supported living complex with others who have sustained brain injuries. This results in issues with memory loss, slower processing of information and consequent problems with decision making, as well as reduced motivation and fatigue.

Mr D has a team leader and support workers who support him with cleaning, maintaining appointments, shopping and support in the community. He is independent in meeting personal care needs however requires additional support in the community. Support is also required to support him to maintain his relationship with his daughter who lives in London.

Mr D is seeking support from someone who shares similar interests as him including, music, coffee and his love of food. The right candidate will support him to access his interests.

Key roles and responsibilities



- Supporting Mr D with his day to day activities e.g. shopping and access in the community.

- Helping him to plan and organise, by assisting with memory strategies

- Enabling him to make decisions and supporting him to assert his wishes.

- Providing gentle encouragement and motivation to try new activities.

- Working under the direction of Mr D's case manager.

- Standing and mobility if able and supporting with wheelchair whilst out.

- Participate in all therapy and stimulation programmes as directed and to provide a stimulating and enjoyable environment for Mr D, throughout the day particularly when he is at home

- Support with appointments and therapeutic services as directed.

- Recording and reporting any concerns and daily record keeping.

- Helping maintain Mr D's relationships with friends and family.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 15.50-16.50 per hour
