Job Description

Job Purpose:

To provide dynamic leadership and day-to-day management of the surgical ward, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care and patient experience. The Surgical Ward Manager will lead a multidisciplinary team within a fast-paced private hospital environment, promoting clinical excellence, safety, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Operational Management

Lead, manage, and support the surgical ward nursing team, ensuring high morale, professional conduct, and performance.

Act as the primary point of contact for ward operations and liaise closely with consultants, theatre teams, and other departments.

Manage staff rotas, recruitment, appraisals, sickness absence management and ongoing professional development in line with hospital policies.

Diligently attend relevant meetings to work closely with other leads to ensure interdepartmental collaboration across the hospital.

Clinical Excellence & Patient Care

Maintain oversight of patient care, ensuring patient-centred, evidence-based practice across post-operative phases.

Ensure adherence to infection control, safeguarding, consent, and medication safety standards.

Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, complaints, and concerns raised by patients or families.

Governance & Quality Assurance

Lead regular audits, clinical risk assessments, and quality improvement initiatives in the ward.

Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with CQC standards and internal governance frameworks.

Support the implementation of hospital-wide initiatives to improve surgical outcomes and patient safety.

Service Improvement

Identify and drive opportunities for continuous improvement in ward workflow, discharge planning, and length-of-stay management.

Collaborate with other clinical leads to support strategic planning and service development initiatives.

Contribute to budget control and ensure efficient use of staffing, equipment, and clinical supplies.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 46,148.00-52,809.00 per year
