Transfer to PC Surveillance

Applications are invited from qualified Surveillance Officers to join Hampshire Surveillance Unit (HSU).

To apply for this position you must already be an accredited Q1 Surveillance Officer.

HSU is a dedicated surveillance team and provides support to level 2 operations across the county (and beyond). The unit also supports local policing, major crime and other law enforcement agencies in response to serious crime.

This challenging and rewarding role requires applicants who can demonstrate an interest in proactive, intelligence-lead policing. You must be willing to work flexibly, in a team environment, whilst demonstrating skills and experience pertinent to the role of a surveillance operative.

Job Purpose

  • Conventional surveillance utilising foot and mobile tactics.
  • Complete records of observations as a log keeper.
  • Utilise a range of imagery and audio recording equipment to gather evidence and intelligence.
  • Operate and staff covert vehicle platforms to gather best evidence.
  • Staff a covert operations control room.
  • Prepare evidential statements from observations and digital media recordings.
  • Conduct surveillance supporting technical operations.
Additional Requirements
  • To accept & successfully complete a vetting process. (SC)
  • To accept and pass, if necessary, a driving assessment.
  • There will be occasional requirements to work away from home.
  • The post holder must be able to work either alone or as part of a team. They will need to be resilient, self-reliant and be able to communicate on a number of levels.
  • The post holder will be required to routinely undertake flexible working practices to effectively discharge their duty i.e. duty times being routinely changed.
  • Extended tours of duty will at times be required.
  • General core working days are Mon \xe2\x80\x93 Fri, however some weekend working will be required subject to operational demands.
  • In addition, it is expected that the post holder will be available for callout, currently on a 1 week in 6 basis, including weekends.
Essential Qualifications
  • Advanced Driver
  • To have successfully completed the Q1 Mobile Surveillance Course
  • Hold a Valid UK driving license, with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • To have no blameworthy PVI\'s/accidents in the last 2 years.
Essential Experience
  • Police constables will have already successfully completed a Q1 mobile surveillance course and have significant recent experience of deploying on live surveillance operations.
  • Previous experience of dealing with matters of a confidential nature is essential, along with an ability to obtain evidence and intelligence.
  • The post holder must have good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work and develop relationships with others.
  • You must be a serving police officer from a Home Office Force.
