Sustainability Manager

Red Sky Personnel are looking for a Sustainability Manager to join one of the world\'s leading chemicals manufacturers. This role can be based throughout numerous countries in Europe, including the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Norway, and Sweden.

Purpose of the role

To refine, develop and further improve the company\'s Sustainability Strategy to gain maximum commercial/environmental and social benefit for the long-term.

The post holder is a functional expert in the understanding of Sustainability and CSR and the differences between them. This includes expert knowledge of the chemistry of all of the company\'s products and an understanding of their manufacturing procedures and a deep understanding of the Business valorisation and usage of products downstream.

Responsibilities:

  • Refine, develop and further improve the Sustainability and CSR strategy for the company.
  • Design and implement a sustainability roadmap regarding KPIs, projects, costs, timings.
  • Ensure that all our trade associations are aligned with business needs and overall direction of the company.
  • Publish an annual report that demonstrates the achievements of each association and its annual targets.
  • Develop and maintain sustainability business models.
  • Develop new models responding to circularity and CO2 trends.
  • Understand waste and recycling value chain dynamics.
  • Develop in house LCA knowledge and capability to calculate LCA for internal process and products in order to prepare for external validation and valorisation.
  • In particular lead the ESG reporting and sustainability rating submission (eg: Ecovadis).
  • Deliver high quality presentations at external conferences to support the company\'s leadership in sustainability.
  • Lead, coach and develop members of the sustainability team.
  • Work closely with the CSR Manager and LCA sustainability Engineer to ensure activities are aligned and compliment one another.
Experience and Qualifications:

Education
  • Undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Science or other relevant discipline
  • Postgraduate education in technical field would be beneficial
  • Significant technical experience within the chemicals industry is required ideally with some time spent within sustainability
  • Previous people management experience required
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of the chemistry of all products, manufacturing processes and ecological issues, and the link between them
  • Experience of defining, developing and implementing a strategic framework
  • Excellent understanding of the various definitions of sustainability and how these can be integrated within a company
Behavioural skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide range of people and offer sound scientific and expert advice to build consensus
  • A creative thinker who can identify new ideas for building sustainability practices and add value to the company
  • Excellent communicator with high level of competence in delivering external presentations and speaking at public forums
