Overview:
The Sustainability Manager will be responsible for shaping, leading, and embedding Bell Microsystems Ltd (Bell) sustainability strategy across the business. This includes driving progress against the Net Zero Transition Plan, managing ESG and CSR frameworks, ensuring compliance with all sustainability regulations and disclosures, and fostering a culture of environmental and social responsibility. The role will also ensure the organisation's full compliance with legal and regulatory sustainability obligations, including the Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) requirements, government and contractual net zero commitments, and emerging global standards. The Sustainability Manager will lead the Sustainability Lead and coordinate cross-functional efforts to ensure that sustainability principles are integrated into Bell's operations, supply chain, and client delivery.
Responsibilities:
1. Sustainability Leadership:Manage the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of Bell's sustainability strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, legal requirements, and international best practice.
Manage delivery of the Net Zero Transition Plan and the Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) in compliance with UK Government procurement policy notes (e.g., PPN 06/21) and client contractual requirements.
Chair and drive the Sustainability Committee and the Sustainability Working Parties, ensuring representation from all business areas and alignment with corporate priorities.
Act as the senior sustainability advisor to leadership, providing insights, risk assessments, and recommendations to inform decision-making.
2. Policy & Framework Development:Develop, implement, and maintain sustainability and environmental management policies in line with ISO 14001, ISO 50001, TCFD, SBTi, and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Ensure robust governance of ESG and CSR frameworks, incorporating climate change, biodiversity, diversity & inclusion, and community engagement and Social Value programmes.
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of sustainability-related legislation, including CRP compliance, SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting), ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme), and other carbon and climate disclosure regulations.
3. Team Leadership & Collaboration:Direct and develop the Sustainability Lead, providing coaching, performance management, and professional development support.
Coordinate cross-business working groups, embedding sustainability considerations into procurement, project delivery, and operational processes.
4. Performance Management & Reporting:Oversee sustainability performance measurement, reporting, and disclosure requirements, including SECR, ESOS, TCFD, CRP, and stakeholder ESG reports.
Lead EcoVadis and other external accreditation submissions, ensuring continuous improvement in ratings.
Provide monthly and quarterly updates to the GRC Director, including key performance indicators, risk assessments, and opportunities for innovation.
5. Stakeholder Engagement:Build strong relationships with internal teams, clients, suppliers, and industry bodies to promote sustainable practices and thought leadership.
Engage directly with suppliers to ensure sustainability and CRP compliance, promoting responsible procurement and ethical sourcing.
6. Waste Management:Streamline waste processes by improving, reducing, re-using, and recycling initiatives to enhance environmental impact.
7. Continuous Improvement:Share ideas, knowledge, and best practices across the organisation to foster a culture of continuous improvement in sustainability efforts by driving change through legal requirements, ISO best practice, UN Sustainability goals, TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures), SBT's (Science Based Targets) and other mechanisms.
Monitor trends and changes in sustainability practices to ensure Bell remains at the forefront of industry developments.
