About the Role
Are you a hands on Electro/Mechanical Engineer? Are you interested in a career where your work is really meaningful and helps deliver a major defence programme of national importance? Yes? Great, then we’d love to hear from you!

Upon joining our Strategic Systems business you will join the SWS Navigation team and will quickly become a key member of the team delivering critical corrective, preventative maintenance for the Navigation sub-system. You will predominantly use electronic and electrical engineering expertise as well as some mechanical to maintain a variety of specialist and complex systems that form the Navigation sub-system on Vanguard class submarines. As a part of this you will occasionally go to sea on the submarine for short periods of time to help test the systems so get the opportunity to see the results of your work in use.

In future, when appropriate, the role may occasionally involve travel to other UK and USA sites to meetings, training and maintenance support as required.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Good working knowledge of all Navigation subsystem and support equipment.
  • Knowledge of SSBN SWS Navigation operations.
  • Good working knowledge Navigation documentation.
  • Good working knowledge of Navigation/Ship interfaces.
  • Proficient experience of Microsoft Office Software suite.
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain customer relationships with the confidence to debate technical issues with both Customer and Design Authority.

The company plays a supporting role in the operational readiness of the nation's nuclear deterrent on board VANGUARD class Trident Submarines and provides the Ministry of Defence (MoD) with safe, efficient and responsive support. LMUK SS, as part of the ABL Alliance with AWE and Babcock, is also responsible for the management of operations at the Royal Naval Armaments Depot Coulport (RNAD(C)). Looking to the future, LMUK SS supports the joint US and UK submarine design efforts in New London Connecticut and Barrow-in–Furness.
