Salary: \xc2\xa327,690 - \xc2\xa331,434

Hours: 37hrs

Contract Type: Fixed-Term (until 31.03.2025)

Role Purpose:

It is an exciting time to join the South Yorkshire Police Research & Analysis department. Recognising the key part intelligence will play in the Force\'s journey to outstanding, a significant increase in investment has been committed to our analytical function. This has created several exciting new roles, which directly support operational performance across a diverse range of crime types, in an expanding department with excellent career development opportunities.

Due to a significant investment in our Intelligence Analysis function, we are inviting applications from methodical, customer-focussed individuals to join our expanding team.

Intelligence Analysts make a direct contribution in the reduction and detection of crime through researching, analysing, and presenting data from a diverse range of sources to enable informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake analysis and present the findings of analytical work to the standards as defined within the National Intelligence Model and in accordance with SYP priorities.
  • Provide expertise using recognised analytical techniques and methodology to assist decision making at a strategic, tactical, and/or operational level.
  • Responsible for developing analytical products and recommendations at a district and force level, including on specialist investigations.
  • You must be able to utilise IT to analyse, interpret and present data (including working knowledge of all core MS Office products). You will have the ability to communicate confidently to a range of stakeholders and prepare and present reports from complex information to support informed decision-making.

  • Establish and interpret requirements to ensure the needs of key stakeholders are met.
  • Negotiate, discuss, and agree terms of reference and strategies for intelligence products with clients including SIOs, tasking chairs and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally to share data, information, and analysis (where appropriate); work with partners to ensure access to a rich intelligence picture (in order to best inform assessments).
  • Collect and evaluate data/information from a wide variety of sources (exploiting all appropriate systems and products, including relevant databases and analytical software tools) to support the creation of a collection plan (where applicable) and the delivery of analytical techniques and intelligence products; thus, supporting the identification and analysis of crime problems across South Yorkshire.
  • Conduct analysis at a strategic, tactical and/or operational level, identifying and using appropriate analytical tools and techniques to:
  • Develop and test inferences and hypotheses, to draw evidence-based conclusions.
  • Deliver intelligence products in support of the relevant unit/district, both in accordance with the standard analytical techniques outlined in NIM and the relevant tasking and co-ordinating processes.
  • Produce written and/or verbal briefings and presentations to stakeholders to provide a clear and concise evidence-based understanding of the subject matter, including providing advice and guidance on products. Be able to prepare, deliver and present analytical products for use in court proceedings and other hearings, as required.
  • Communicate complex analytical information and recommendations to districts/departments at all levels, both in writing and orally.
  • Adhere to all legal frameworks, key working principles, professional practice, policies, and guidance relevant to the role.
  • Maintain awareness of innovation within intelligence to ensure local implementation of latest techniques and tactics, best practice, and information relevant to the role. Pledge to develop personal knowledge, through continuous professional development in the field of intelligence analysis.
  • Commit to the nationally recognised assessment of the skills and abilities of all intelligence roles, IPP (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme), which assesses ongoing competence against the professional standards for the role. This includes annual maintenance of the IPP certification, once attained.
  • Contribute to district/department performance through creating an in-depth understanding of issues.
  • To provide a quality assurance role, including peer review, in relation to analytical products and evidence.
  • Assist in mentoring and peer support, to help develop other Intelligence Analysts and Researchers.
  • Perform such other duties as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and are commensurate with its level of responsibility.
  • May be required to work \'on call\' as part of a rota.
  • Ability to travel within and outside of the Force area and to work hybrid/agile.
Skills and experience:
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent proven analytical experience.
  • College of Policing Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) certification, or willingness to complete within agreed timescales (
2 years). * Skilled in the use of IT packages, systems and/or databases involved in analysing interpreting, storing, and presenting data; demonstrate high level aptitude using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in intelligence/information collection and analysis.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare and present reports from a range of complex data sources to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate confidently at all levels, including an ability to negotiate and influence.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.

Fixed: This is a traditional arrangement, applicable when the work is mostly required to be undertaken at a fixed single place of work (on police premises) for most of the time. The work can only or is more effectively delivered from a police premises or other agreed organisational/partner premises.

Field: This applies to roles that do have a base, however, due to the nature of their duties is required to travel to other locations. Due to the nature of these roles, they cannot accommodate flexible working from home on a permanent basis.

Hybrid: Applicable when the work can be undertaken at any location, whether that be a SYP building or from home.
