ALTEN UK is establishing a new

Defence Systems Engineering

capability in

Belfast

, supporting a portfolio of advanced

mission and sensing systems

. This is an opportunity to work on high-impact projects, defining and delivering complex system architectures that integrate software, hardware, and test disciplines. You'll contribute across the full engineering lifecycle -- from

requirements capture to qualification

-- as part of a growing multidisciplinary team helping shape the next generation of defence technology.

On-site requirement:

3-5 days per week

SC Clearance

preferred / must be eligible (5+ years UK residency)

Seniority:

5+ years' experience

Key Responsibilities:



Develop and manage

system requirements

, ensuring clear traceability and flow-down to subsystem and component levels. Support

system architecture design

, trade studies, and

interface control documentation (ICD)

development. Contribute to

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

using tools such as

MATLAB

,

Simulink

, or equivalent modelling environments. Plan and execute

IVVQ activities

, maintaining evidence, tracking defects, and ensuring timely closure with stakeholders. Produce and maintain

technical documentation

including design notes, test plans, procedures, and reports. Work collaboratively with

hardware, software, and test teams

to achieve design maturity and milestone readiness for trials and qualification.


Qualifications

Required Skills:



Experience in

requirements management

tools such as

IBM DOORS

or equivalent. Familiarity with

systems engineering methodologies

,

V-model lifecycle

, and

configuration management

. Understanding of

verification and validation processes

, including test planning and evidence collation. Strong

technical writing

and communication skills for design documentation and stakeholder reporting. Ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams to integrate

HW/SW/test

activities effectively.

Desirable Skills:



Experience with

MBSE frameworks

(SysML, Simulink, Capella, etc.). Knowledge of

safety-critical systems

or

mission systems integration

. Understanding of

risk, issue, and configuration control

within large engineering programmes. Familiarity with

defence or aerospace standards

(e.g.

DEF-STAN 00-56

,

DO-178C

,

ISO 15288

). Prior experience working in

high-integrity environments

such as aerospace, defence, or transportation.

Required Qualifications:



Must be eligible for or already hold

UK Security Clearance (SC)

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in

Systems

,

Aerospace

,

Electronics

, or

Software Engineering

, or a related field

OR

A relevant technical

military background

with equivalent hands-on engineering experience
