The EES business unit has world class experts in the provision of real-time embedded systems, specialising in safety critical control systems. To continue to grow the business we are now looking for experienced Systems Engineers to join our growing team.
This Systems Engineering vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organisation. The job holder will be engaged in a wide variety of Systems Engineering activities covering the entire engineering lifecycle, including; systems definition, input to estimates and bid activities, requirements apportionment, systems architecting, integration, verification & validation, which will involve proactive interaction and communication with other Engineering and non-Engineering functions. Candidates with a good understanding of all aspects of Systems Engineering relating to lifecycle processes and methodologies should apply.
The Remote Systems team is responsible for delivering remote and autonomous systems into service to progress the customers technology roadmaps. We deliver remote marine functions (ship navigation and engineering), remote survey and data collection systems, and Remote Operations Centres around the world.
The Systems Engineer is responsible for the analysis, specification and design of certain constituent parts of the customer system. They need to be comfortable working with stakeholders from across the business and wider industry and distilling complex problems into clear and achievable requirements and designs. Very often, Systems Engineers will follow a design through the whole lifecycle and also participate in verification and delivery activities.
Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Analyse traditional crew functions and tasks across Payload, Survey and Marine
+ Architect remote and autonomous systems-of-systems to meet long-term customer technology roadmaps
+ Specify (write requirements) remote systems, sub-systems and component parts
+ Develop remote systems in line with the feature roadmap in partnership with internal and external suppliers,
+ Comply with customer Policies, practices, programs, and procedures as described in their management system.
+ Complete required training as identified by Customer Training Program.
+ Participates in improving the Customer management system by reporting events, attending meetings and workshops, reporting problems, and recommending improvements, as well as other related activities.
+ Informs their manager/responsible person of any unidentified risks, hazards, or system deficiencies in the workplace by using Stop Work authority, SOB card reporting, Incident reporting or by reporting directly to relevant personnel.
+ Communicates and implements the customers policies and procedures and their requirements to employees, visitors, and contractors.
+ Supports Customer's Health and safety, Environmental and Social goals.
+ Recording and managing the overall USV Systems Architecture
+ Recording and managing interfaces between systems in the architecture
+ Writing requirements in Altium and MS Word
+ Identifying potential suppliers for systems and supporting them to develop compliant proposals
+ Contributing to safety, maintenance and design documentation for regulators
+ Participate in failure and hazard analyses
+ Ideally experienced in safety-critical vehicle industries e.g. defence, rail, aerospace or automotive
+ Able to travel to Southampton for workshops and project onboarding
Qualifications:
Preferred, Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or have evidence of progress towards Professional Registration with a PEI.Experienced in Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environments.
Essential skills:
Experience of requirements definition, development and management of requirements through the course of projects.
Verification,Validation and Certification experience
Ability to breakdown conceptual models into individual sub-system & component models.
Operate effectively on ambiguous early-stage projects.
Desired skills:
MBSE experience a plus
Experience:
Practical, relevant experience in a product development environment performing similar roles.
Expertise in requirements engineering and system architecture.
Experience of applying system engineering toolsets and paradigms such as IBM DOORS, V & V, etc
A good engineering degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline.
Demonstrable requirements definition and management experience
Demonstrable V&V / Certification experience
