QinetiQ\'s UK Intelligence business helps our customers to respond to constantly evolving threats, based on our expertise in secured navigation, radar & electronic warfare, secure communication platforms, intelligence, surveillance and cyber security. We deliver Mission Winning Innovation into global defence, security, and critical national infrastructure markets through provision of \'customer-friend\' advice, acquisition support, and solution development activities.

Systems Engineering:

QinetiQ\'s Systems Engineers are renowned for providing high quality, independent technical advice to a wide range of customers, in support of their major acquisition programmes, and for developing our own range of world-leading products. We are looking for people to join our growing team of Systems Engineers who are interested in applying and developing their technical expertise, across a number of domains, both military and commercial.

Systems Engineering is a key technical discipline within QinetiQ. In fact, many of the chief engineers and other technical leads supporting areas of our business are Systems Engineers. Their expertise covers everything from the use of different lifecycle models and development methods (e.g. agile and model-based Systems Engineering), to the use of specific tools and notations. Day to day, they conduct requirements engineering, architecting, design, integration and test, evaluation and acceptance, and through-life support.

As a Systems Engineer you will be an essential part of the team in a position that grows and develops your existing skill-sets. This is a unique opportunity to learn in-post about a range of technologies and domains. Varied career paths are therefore part of life at QinetiQ. You could specialise in a key skill or particular domain, or work on Systems Engineering across the business.

The role will require you to be involved in a broad application of systems engineering knowledge, from the establishing of user needs through to final delivery. Typically you will work across a number of these areas and develop strong whole lifecycle experience.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Undertakes technical work activities within a systems engineering context.
  • Work as part of a technical team in support of project objectives.
  • Responsible for the production of technical documentation in support of work carried out.
  • Deliver work and reports on progress to more senior technical and project staff.
  • Escalate problems and issues encountered with supervisory staff.
What will I be doing?

There are opportunities to work in the following Domains and Activities:
  • Communications & Information Systems (particularly in the military land environment)
  • Cyber and Security
  • Electronic Warfare and Radar
  • Research & Innovation
  • Secured Navigation (particularly Global Navigation Satellite Systems - GNSS
  • Application of Systems Engineering principles across the lifecycle i.e. concept development, requirements capture, architecting, design, delivery, verification and validation.
  • Consultancy and Business Analysis
  • Product Development (full lifecycle)
  • Engagement with customers and developing new propositions
  • Service Delivery
Academic requirements:

You will need to be working towards or have attained a degree with a key focus on any of the disciplines listed:

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics degrees particularly covering Systems Engineering, Electrical, Electronics, Information and Mechanical Engineering.

Additional requirements:
  • Have an understanding of systems engineering.
  • Proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be a self-motivated team member that takes ownership of tasking whilst operating collaboratively within a dynamic team.
  • Take a flexible approach to tasking, potentially be able to support multiple projects or tasks in a variety of stages of development.
  • Be prepared to travel to customer and QinetiQ sites on a project-dependent basis to support project delivery
