The Opportunity:





We are excited to be recruiting for a Tax Accountant to join our highly regarded finance team. This part-time position is available at either 22.5 or 30 hours per week and is offered initially on a 12-month fixed term contract. We offer flexible, hybrid working arrangements. Typically, you will be required to work from our Bristol office 1 to 2 days per week, with the choice to work either in the office or remotely on the remaining days.



In this key role, you will report to the Senior Tax Manager and be responsible for preparing and submitting both direct and indirect tax returns to HMRC. You will also support the Senior Tax Manager in maintaining a robust tax risk management framework for the business.

Key Responsibilities:



Direct and Indirect Tax Reporting


Manage all aspects of UK Corporation Tax and VAT, including accurate and timely completion and submission of computations, returns, payments, deferred tax, and partial exemption calculations Maintain and update tax calculation spreadsheets; ensure reconciliations with internal and external records across all tax processes Oversee compliance of business activities and policies with direct and indirect tax legislation, including VAT substantive testing Lead on the preparation of tax notes for financial statements and annual Pay As You Earn Settlement Agreement returns, and drive process improvements in information collection Coordinate data for Short-Term Business Visitors and Community Investment Tax Relief calculations, and support the preparation of transfer pricing documentation

Tax Control


Support the Senior Tax Manager in implementing Group Tax Policy, fulfilling Code of Practice and Senior Accounting Officer requirements, and ensuring business-wide tax compliance Prepare and present annual Corporation Tax in-control sign off documentation and tax control reports to senior management Monitor, and review Risk Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) for Corporation Tax and VAT, recommending process improvements and capturing risks, controls, and responsibilities Advise on Expense and Credit Card policy compliance with HMRC requirements and provide technical VAT and Corporation Tax guidance across the business

Projects


Lead and contribute to tax-related projects, develop and deliver VAT and Corporation Tax training, and create tax guidance for Finance and wider teams

Other Duties


Conduct horizon scanning for changes in VAT or Corporation Tax legislation, assess business impacts, and keep tax knowledge current by sharing updates across the business Maintain and communicate process documentation, suggest improvements to finance practices, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal governance requirements Undertake other duties as required to support the Finance team and business objectives

What we are looking for:





You will have significant experience working within a financial or accounting function and hold a relevant tax or accounting qualification (such as ATT, ACCA, or ACA). Experience in preparing both direct and indirect tax returns, including Corporation Tax and VAT, is essential, as is advanced knowledge of Excel.



Assessing tax risks and experience with VAT are key aspects of this role, and it would be highly beneficial if you have a proven track record in process improvement and implementing effective tax controls.



You should be comfortable interacting with multiple stakeholders across the Bank, able to independently assess technical tax queries, and present your findings in a clear and organised manner. Experience providing tax expertise to business-wide projects and process changes would also be advantageous.

In return for your hard work and expertise, you will receive a Full time Equivalent salary of between 48,000 and 53,000 depending on experience, plus access to our extensive benefits package, where most of our benefits are non-contributory.
