Tax Manager

Coventry, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

You've navigated HMRC challenges, crafted tax-efficient strategies, and overseen complex compliance, but lately, you might feel limited by narrow mandates, insufficient team support, or long hours that leave no time to explore Coventry's rich heritage. What if your next position offered you the authority to shape tax policy, balanced hours to enjoy local culture, and a team that rallies around your leadership?

What You'll Gain (Beyond a Paycheck)

Autonomy & Work-Life Integration:

Imagine logging off early to explore Coventry Cathedral or unwind at Coombe Abbey. In this role, you'll manage your diary, choose when to work remotely, and focus on strategic tax projects without micromanagement.

Transparent Leadership Path:

You deserve more than vague titles. Here, you'll build a clear roadmap, whether that means stepping into a Director of Tax role or developing expertise in international tax. Regular goal-setting sessions keep you on track.

Strategic Impact & Recognition:

No more "box-ticking" compliance. You'll partner with senior leadership, CFOs, finance directors, and board members to design tax strategies that drive efficiency, protect profitability, and align with long-term business goals.

Collaborative, Supportive Culture:

You won't be "just another manager." You'll join a team where colleagues celebrate exam passes, check in on challenging weeks, and share local lunch spots. Whether it's knowledge-sharing sessions or Friday evening socials, you'll feel part of a community.

About the Organisation & Its Values

Situated in Coventry, our client believes tax advisory goes far beyond filing deadlines. It's about fueling sustainable growth. Their culture is built on:

Integrity & Transparency:

Doing right by clients and colleagues, even when rules are complex.

Teamwork & Respect:

Every perspective is valued; when one of you excels, the entire team succeeds.

Continuous Development:

Tax legislation evolves constantly. You'll have access to specialised training, conferences, and a peer network to keep your expertise cutting-edge.
Whether you've led tax teams in practice or in-house, you'll find an environment that rewards innovation, prioritises balance, and invests in your professional growth.

What We're Looking For (In Partnership With You)

If you bring:

Extensive Tax Knowledge & Leadership:

You've managed corporate and indirect tax compliance, led tax planning initiatives, and coached junior team members.

Commercial Insight & Analytical Rigor:

You translate complex tax regulations into practical, business-focused advice that mitigates risk and drives profitability.

Collaborative Spirit & Mentoring Ability:

You've built high-performing tax teams, encouraging open dialogue, continuous improvement, and shared success.

Effective Communication & Relationship-Building:

You present technical tax information clearly to stakeholders, build trust with HMRC, and negotiate with confidence.
Then you'll be supported with:

Customised Development Plans:

Whether your goal is to become Head of Tax, you'll have the training, mentorship, and resources to get there.

Peer Network & Mentorship:

Participate in regular tax roundtables, access a dedicated mentor, and engage with a network of senior advisors for guidance.

Competitive Compensation & Benefits:

A salary that reflects your expertise, private healthcare contributions, pension matching, and a robust holiday package ensure you can focus on both success and quality of life.

Your Role, Reimagined

As Tax Manager, you'll:

Lead client-facing advisory work for large organisations (150m+ revenue), preparing complex corporate, VAT/HMRC, and payroll tax returns. Oversee full tax compliance lifecycle, filing returns, managing HMRC audits, and ensuring every deadline and regulation is met. Advise senior management on strategic tax planning, identifying savings, mitigating risk, and aligning with business-wide objectives. Partner with finance, legal, and operations teams (and external advisors) to deliver integrated tax support on transactions, M&A, restructurings, and transfer pricing. Mentor and develop your team, champion new tax software/tools, and drive process enhancements that turn your recommendations into measurable results.
You'll have the freedom to introduce new tax software tools, refine processes, and see your strategic recommendations drive measurable outcomes.
