Tax Manager

Dundee, SCT, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

You've mastered tax filings, navigated the complexity of UK tax codes, and advised clients on planning, but lately, you might feel constrained by inflexible processes, siloed departments, or limited leadership opportunities. What if your next challenge gave you real authority to shape tax strategy, balanced hours to enjoy Dundee's waterfront, and a team that rallies around you?

What You'll Gain (Beyond a Paycheck)

Autonomy & Flexibility:

Picture wrapping up early to stroll along the River Tay or enjoy a weekend in the Cairngorms. In this role, you'll manage your diary, choose when to work remotely, and focus on high-value tax projects without micromanagement.

Clear Leadership Path:

You deserve clarity on career progression. Here, you'll design a leadership roadmap, whether that means leading a larger tax team or becoming the go-to authority for complex corporate tax planning. Quarterly goal-setting sessions keep you on track.

Strategic Influence:

No more rote compliance work with little impact. You'll partner directly with senior stakeholders, CFOs, board members, private equity clients to shape tax strategy, identify savings, and turn compliance obligations into opportunities for growth.

Inclusive, Supportive Environment:

You won't be "just another manager." You'll join a team where people know birthdays, share local fishing tips, and genuinely celebrate each other's wins. Whether it's informal roundtable discussions or Friday night gatherings at a local pub, you'll feel part of a family.

About the Organisation & Its Values

Based in Dundee, our client believes tax advisory goes beyond filing deadlines--it's about empowering businesses to thrive. Their culture is built on:

Integrity & Transparency:

Always doing right by clients and colleagues, even when the rules are complex.

Collaboration & Respect:

Every team member's perspective is valued; when one of you excels, everyone succeeds.

Continuous Learning:

Tax laws evolve constantly. You'll have access to specialised training, seminars, and conferences to keep your knowledge cutting-edge.
Whether you've managed tax functions in practice or in-house, you'll find a culture that prizes innovation, work-life balance, and professional excellence.

What We're Looking For (In Partnership With You)

If you bring:

Solid Tax Expertise & Leadership:

You've overseen corporate and personal tax compliance, led tax planning projects, and mentored junior tax professionals.

Analytical Insight & Commercial Judgment:

You transform complex tax regulations into practical advice that supports business strategy and minimises risk.

Collaborative Spirit & Coaching Ability:

You've built and guided tax teams, welcoming diverse perspectives and creating a culture of continuous improvement.

Proactive Communication & Relationship-Building:

Whether advising clients or liaising with HMRC, you communicate clearly, build trust, and resolve issues efficiently.
Then you'll be supported with:

Tailored Development Plans:

Whether you aim to become a Director or develop expertise in international tax, you'll have the resources, courses, conference attendance, and mentorship to reach your goals.

Mentorship & Peer Network:

You'll join regular tax roundtables, have a dedicated mentor, and engage with a network of senior advisors for guidance on complex issues.

Attractive Compensation & Benefits:

A competitive salary reflecting your expertise, contributions to private healthcare, pension matching, and a generous holiday package mean you can focus on both tax strategy and quality of life.

Your Role, Reimagined

As Tax Manager, you'll:

Lead end-to-end tax compliance for corporate and personal tax clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full regulatory compliance. Develop and implement tax planning strategies that optimise cash flow, mitigate risk, and support business objectives. Collaborate with finance, legal, and business development teams to provide integrated advice that aligns with wider company goals. Mentor and develop a team of tax professionals, conducting reviews, providing feedback, and fostering an environment where everyone's ambition is nurtured. Stay ahead of legislative changes, interpreting new tax regulations, sharing insights with stakeholders, and adjusting strategies proactively.
You'll have the freedom to build processes, deploy new tax technology tools, and see your strategic recommendations drive measurable business outcomes.
