We are excited to be recruiting a Band 5 nurse to join our east Kent team.
This post is a development role with a view to progressing to a Band 6 specialist TB nurse.
The successful candidate will work closely and be supervised by our experienced Specialist TB nurses in a supportive environment.
We are seeking someone with excellent communication skills, who enjoys the challenge of working with socially and medically complex patients in a community setting and who is passionate about advocating for our patients. We are looking forward to welcoming the right candidate to our 'Outstanding' Trust and our friendly and well-established team.
The role will primarily involve caring for patients in north Kent but may involve some wider travel in Kent for training and meetings. The post holder will work closely with our specialist TB nurses but will also need to be able to work autonomously.
In return for your hard work we offer you a flexible working environment, personal development and a comprehensive corporate and local induction programme.
We strongly believe in making sure you have the right support, resources and training to enjoy your job.
This role would be suitable for nurses already working at a Band 5 or Band 6 who are keen to develop their skills in a specialism and progress to a Band 6 specialist TB nurse once they have passed the TB nurse competencies and have demonstrated the necessary skills and knowledge.
The role of a Band 5 TB nurse is to support the Specialist TB Nurses in their role as named case managers of patients with TB, to support TB contact tracing and screening and to have oversight of diagnostic results and the team's caseloads.
You will work alongside the Specialist TB nurses to gain the necessary skills and experience needed for the Specialist TB nurse role, using evidence-based care in line with national and local guidelines to support the successful treatment of TB and reduce onwards transmission of the disease. Specialist TB nurses are responsible for the holistic case management of children and adults with suspected or confirmed TB.
They act as a named case manager for patients, supporting both standard and complex case management. As part of a multidisciplinary approach, TB Nurses maintain close links with a wide range of key stakeholders including UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), NHSE/I, respiratory consultants, microbiologists, pharmacists, screening and immunisations teams and GPs.
We care for adults, children and babies, through case management, screening clinics, BCG vaccination and health promotion. The post will involve visiting people in their own homes, clinics and some outreach work as well as phone and virtual appointments.
